Good News for Bacon Lovers

MMMMM.....Bacon!!! I'd rather have 2 pieces of the real stuff and lose some fat and calories elsewhere in the day than eat a whole package of that turkey crud. My coworkers eat turkey bacon every morning and they think its the best thing since sliced bread, I find it repulsive. Way too salty - just tastes like chewy salty shoe leather. I would think I would like it, I like turkey sausage, turkey burgers, and ground turkey, but turkey bacon just gives me the heebie-jeebies. Pork fat, pork fat, Rah Rah Rah!!!!

I feel the same as you about turkey bacon....usually, but Whole Foods sells this brand that is great. I can't think of the name and I don't have any right now but I'll look next time I am in the store!

Ok, I am back from reading the article. I am gonna try that morning star bacon. My DS loves their "chicken" nuggets and "corn dogs". DH like the sausage patties.

I've been eating the Morning Star fake bacon for years, and love it, but, then again, I haven't eaten pig in 20 years!

Love their burgers, too. DH uses the crumbles in his chili and we've had friends ask us if he made a 'meat' batch for them!!!

I eat Morning Star Bacon sometimes on my cheat days. It isn't very clean eating nor is it that healthy for you. I'd rather have beans rice and vegies topped with salsa.

I only eat bacon once or twice a year and when I do it has to be the real deal. That turkey crap is, well, crap. It's so salty and has such an odd texture. I get thick sliced bacon from the butcher -- none of that prepackaged stuff -- and no guilt! It's a treat and I enjoy it.

Janie,That sounds Delish!:9

I'll have to try the morning star bacon, thanks for the article Robin!

Morningstar bacon for the win! Then again, I also don't eat meat so it's kind of my only option. Still, it's remarkably delicious, and this is from someone who's usually kind of suspicious of "fake meats". The MS sausage patties are even better than the bacon, since you can just pop them in the microwave for 30 seconds, crumble them up and put them in an egg scramble, and they're only 80 calories each. The bacon doesn't have much in the way of protein, but the sausage has 10g, which is pretty decent.

I love morning star farms bacon strips. Even though I am a meat eater I will eat these over the real thing. I just don't like the fat in bacon. I do eat the real thing about once a year just to remind me why I choose the vegetarian option.

It's clean eating for me b/c I do Atkins! ;-)

I do however try to go for the healthier stuff like turkey bacon. And years ago my mom gave me this really cool bacon maker for the microwave where you have "Ts" sticking out of a plastic dish, you drape the bacon over the Ts & most of the fat drips into the dish. Obviously not all of it, but it makes it crispier & somewhat healthier. Very yummy. :9
