Good news: Chocolate is medication!

This is the best news I read all week. I read an article in our daily paper that says those who indulge in chocolate are less likely to be on anti-depressants!!! They called it 'self-medication'. Is it true?

I thought finding this info was rather timely because since Feb. 6 I decided to give the stuff up until Easter...and my family says I'm a grump. To begin with I blamed PMS. I'm now in my 4th straight week of PMS!!!

So if choc has been my 'drug' of choice to help me cope then feasibly I can not be concerned about the calories in it right? After all who counts the calories of their medication? And besides, I was always under the delusion that if I just gave up chocolate I'd lose those last nasty little bulges. In 4 weeks the only thing I've lost is a little sanity!

I'm counting off the days until Easter when I can go back on my 'meds'.

'self-medication' is actually a term used by endocrinologists. It basically means to keep up a bad habit while improving other areas of ones life (nutrition, lifestyle, stress levels, exercise etc...). If all areas of one's life are balanced and happy, a little chocolate is not going to hurt anyone.

I have an itty bit of dark chocolate every single day in the morning (almost) and I SWEAR it's my anti-depressant.

Your theory is great...don't count the "calories" (or fat) in meds.....but meds are small, so.....you don't get a lot of it! :p

Chocolate is supposed to increase the amount of serototin in your brain, which makes you feel good. (I've read it has the same effect chemically as having a "big O"!)
