Good Books

While we're talking movies, let's add books. My son keeps getting me addicted to the series that he's reading. I really enjoy being able to discuss the books with him. And my other kids usually pick up on the books as well. It's a great connection.

Here are some of our family favorites:
Percy Jackson and the Olympians (hilarious dialogue, and marvelous twist on the Greek/Roman myths--the most fun I've EVER had reading a book)!
Eragon - Inheritance Cycle (excellent writing, IMHO. I'm re-reading the first 2 so I can start the 3rd--it's been a couple of years. DS had Brisingr read within 3 days of release).
Harry Potter (my then 7-year-old read the entire series last year--really opened his eyes to their being so much more to a book than a movie).
Leven Thumps (finished Eyes of the Want last night--have to purchase the newest release today to find out the ending--Mother and Son both waiting on this one).
Chronicles of Narnia
The Squire's Tales (stumbled on these--fun take on the King Arthur Legends)
Chronicles of Pyrdain or Prydain (sp?)

I've been listening to some Jane Austen e-audiobooks while running. The overdrive audiobook selection (through my library system) is limited. I could use some suggestions--just got an MP3 that can handle these and really enjoying it.

What do you guys like?

Elsie

I love anything by Nancy Taylor Rosenberg and Danielle Steel, unfortunately I don't read as much as I'd like to and since I belong to a book club and buy everyone of their books that comes out (and DS puts one out alomst every couple montsh) I have a ton to get to!! Once I start reading though, I have a hard time putting a good one down!

Oh and I loved Sidney Sheldon books!

Right now, I'm about 300 pages into "Kushiel's Dart" by Jacqueline Carey. Its a trilogy, and I belive there is another trilogy that follows behind it. The 1st 100 pages (there are 900 total) were a little slow, but it has really picked up. I did about 200 pages yesterday. I'm really liking this one.

TeTe's list is great!

I know I've recommended these before, but I'll toss 'em out again...

Anything by Sarah Vowell or David Sedaris. Sarah has a new one out, The Wordy Shipmates...hopefully my library will get it soon! :)

Others I've enjoyed:
Stranger in a Strange Land,
Robert Heinlein
The Left Hand of Darkness, Ursula K. Legun
Ladies of Liberty, Cokie Roberts
Kitchen Confidential, Anthony Bourdain

Since Halloween season is upon us, I recommend any of Joseph Citro's books. He writes primarily weird and supernatural New England. I think his books are a lot of fun...mostly because I'm familiar with so many of the places he writes about.
