Getting a medical 2nd opinion

My brother has cancer that metastasized to his brain. He recently finished radiation therapy then had an MRI. His doctor told him that there was minimal shrinkage to the tumors. Well, he just got back from UCLA where he was told that there was significant shrinkage and that they are optimistic that chemotherapy should take care of the rest.

Boy, now I'm even more of a firm believer in getting a second opinion when you're dealing with a serious health issue.

Sorry to hear about what you and your brother are going through. I wish all the luck to him. And yes it is said, that it is always good to get a second opinion.

Good Luck!

Thanks for sharing this Elaine! Congrats to your brother - I'll keep him in my prayers.

I'm in Maryland temporarily as my mom undergoes chemo for her cancer. We're not sure what kind as it's in the liver, but the only test that came back positive was for breast cancer, but that showed up NO WHERE on the PET scan. Her doctor is convinced it's liver cancer (which is basically fatal), but my mom is going to Hopkins for a second opinion. I'm hoping that Hopkins will figure out what kind of cancer this is and the best course of treatment. I'm glad to hear that your brother's second opinion was so positive!
