Cathlete
Ladies-

THANK YOU!!!!!
THANK YOU!!!!!
THANK YOU!!!!!

How very thoughtful of you, Carole, to have searched out my results and then posted them for the board. THANK YOU to all of you for your sincere thoughts and well wishes. You have NO IDEA how much that means to me.

OK, as Sarah asked, some details, but I'll try not to bore you all to tears! LOL

I just came off the WDW website and saw some good (AND FUNNY) numbers:
My net time: 4 hours, 55 minutes, 25 seconds
My place, overall: 5,023 (there were over 14,000 runners)
My place, overall for females: 1,863
My place, in my division: 294

I was able to run with my usual running partner (a man) for the first 17 miles, which really was a relief to me. I was afraid I'd have to run this marathon alone. At mile 17, he started to have major issues with his calves, so he needed to stop and stretch every 3/4 mile or so. Good for him, BAD FOR ME. Everytime I stopped with him to stretch and then started up again, my right knee got worse and hurt more. So, we decided to separate and I ran the last 9+ miles without him.

I was fine till mile 21, where I had to make my FIRST AND ONLY bathroom break (considering TOM hit the day before, that's pretty darn good. lol). That stop really caused me to stiffen up and my knee hurt from there on out.

BUT..................there was so much motivation and team spirit throughout the entire run that there was plenty of motivation to go around. The Leukemia Society's Team In Training was wonderful! Coaches from other TNT teams were posted throughout the entire marathon and almost every single one of them checked to see that I was ok, did I need anything, how was I, etc.

DISNEY..what else can I say? I ran past Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, thru Epcot, Magic Kingdom, MGM, Animal Kingdom right past the swinging monkeys! MUSIC, bands, cheerleaders, Disney characters, and CHOCOLATE at mile 20!!!!!!!!!!!

My mom, my 2 boys, my younger sis from N Carolina, and a friend from these (and the WW) boards from Texas all went to see me. My new boyfirend even SURPRISED me by flying in for marathon weekend just to see me do this!

At the finish line, they called my name and when I crossed, I CRIED! I cried because it was over (both happy and sad). I cried because all the emotions from the past 3 years came flooding back like a whirlwind (DH's illness, etc). I CRIED because I DID IT.

The most emotional part for me (ok, 2 of them) was the tought of my boys seeing me finish this long run after months of training. The other thing that sticks out in my mind was this elderly couple who I saw about 4 times throughout the course. They were probably older 70's and they both were holding signs in purple and green (TNT team colors) that said THANK YOU for helping us. AS we ran past, they called out names and thanked us for heping the cause! AMAZING!

I never doubted that I'd finish, I just wondered how long it would take me! I set my goal at 5 hours, and I beat that!

FINALLY,,,,,,,thank you, all of you, for your support!

NOW, back to the Cathe workouts! LOL I finished a marathon and STILL don't consider myself a runner. BUT......I've got a 10K I'm running on Feb 5th, then a half marathon in April. I can be a runner, right? LOL

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Gayle

p.s. when I get pictures uploaded and get Disney's official pics, I'll post them also if you don't mind!

Oh, Gayle, your post almost made me cry! That sounds so fabulous. What an incredible experience. And CHOCOLATE!!! I'll have to look into this Disney marathon thing;)

I'm so glad it all went well for you, though your knee was acting up a bit. But you made it through and did a fantastic job!

High fives!!!

Oh Gayle - what a FABULOUS story - I got tears in my eyes just reading your words. It sounds like a wonderful race and you should be VERY PROUD of yourself - what an accomplishment.

You - a runner????? Are you kidding - MOST DEFINITELY!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

Have a great recovery time and enjoy your other runs, too.

Take care,
Marcia.

Thanks, Shelley!

The chocolate really lit a fire under my butt! When I heard the volunteers yelling "water to the right, Powerade to the left, CHOCOLATE up ahead", I hauled A$$! LOL

Then, after I ate mine, I was scouring the runners around me asking if they had any left they didn't want! LOL Mad woman needs CHOCOLATE!

Oh, and I wanted to add that I was INCREDIBLY sore on Monday, but my knee really loosened up with walking the parks (and the air boat rides just 3 hours after my finish!). Today, quads are a bit sore and my knee is tugging a bit, but no limping or screaming while siting down! LOL

Gayle

Three cheers for you, Gayle! I'm so impressed with anyone who runs long distance. Thank you for sharing your inspirational story.

Gayle....you did so AWESOME!!!! I was so happy to find your results. It was so cool how they tracked you with the chip.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I can understand completely why you cried as you finished. Running a marathon for a cuase like you did must be such a good but emotional feeling when you finish! Very cool your BF flew in to see you...How wonderful you had so much support. That does help so much in those last few grueling miles. YES, you are a runner Gayle!!!

I for one cannot wait to see your Disney pictures!!!! Way to go....:)...Carole

Gayle,

I too almost cried when reading your post. Thanks for sharing and CONGRATUALTIONS on your marathon!

Terri

Way to go Gayle! You made me cry too. You did have an awesome support team. You don't consider yourself a runner?! You just ran a marathon girl! ;-) I certainly couldn't consider myself a runner for sure then! All the runners on here are so amazing!

Keep us posted with your other upcoming races.

Dallas

ETA: Oh yeah, CHOCOLATE at the 20 mile mark?! Is that common in races? LOL! That'll get you going!

Way to go, Gayle!!! You know, I may just be able to run if someone dangles a chocolate bar in front of me--LOL!

You're an inspiration and I'm sure your DH looked down upon you with pride and love!

Michele

Thank you, everybody.

Yeah, I may be able to do another marathon if I know there's gonna be chocolate!

Gayle

Wow Gayle, what a wonderful post. And what an even MORE wonderful run! In Disney, of all places!

>I ran past Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, thru Epcot,
>Magic Kingdom, MGM, Animal Kingdom right past
>the swinging monkeys!

I had to read this one over and over. Just WALKING around MGM from morning 'til night was incredibly tiring. I lost two pounds walking around Disneyworld for two days, without any changes in my diet, so I can't even begin to imagine how much energy you spent running for over 4 hours through these places, much less the time and energy and HEART you gave training.

CONGRATULATIONS! You ARE a runner.:)

Pinky

Gayle! Your description is so touching! Congratulations! I have trained and raised funds with Team In Training so I know on a very small level what you experienced. What an incredible accomplishment! We are so proud of you. Not a runner? You? You're crazy!!!! Again, way to go! Are you walking straight yet?

Oh, man...you have me in tears!!!! What a GREAT story!! Thank you so much for sharing!!! I loved it! I am so happy for you! I cannot wait to see the pictures!

Thanks, again, everybody.

I am, INDEED, walking straight without a limp! LOL. When I got out of bed Monday morning, I was AFRAID! I stood right up, and couldn't move. My knees locked up and my quads were laughing at me as I tried to get them to move me to the bathroom! LOL My boys knew for Monday and Tuesday to come nowhere NEAR my legs!

Honestly, I was more sore than I had expected. And, I was surprised at how the BACKS of my knees were so sore. Int his order, this is the level of pain....right knee by FAR the worst for the first 2 days. Then my quads just were ripped to shreds. Then the backs of my knees. And, finally, my core!!!!!

SUCH GOOD SORE FEELING (yes, I'm sick! LOL).

Gayle

What a wonderful post Gayle...I have tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. Congratulations again...

Ah, thanks (again)

Sarah-my longest run before the marathon was my 20 miler during the training weeks. The only (and I really, seriously mean the ONLY) thing that worried me about the actual running of the marathon was just how long my right knee would hold up. I was hoping to get to 15 before the aching started, so when I got to 21 and it hit, I was pleased and so filled with emotion that I was DEFINITELY going to finish under goal!

Gayle

p.s. you guys ROCK! You have made me feel so very excited and just plain ol' happy all over again!
