your roses! I just got out of a 4-day hospital stay for an infected left middle finger due to an embedded rose thorn. I had surgery, was treated with IV antibiotics and now have a cast to my elbow.
Be sure and wear thick, protective gloves when working on your roses. Watch out for any puncture-type wound. If you experience pain, redness, swelling and the redness moves away from the injury site, get to the ER ASAP! Elevation of the infected site and application of a hot compress will help to localize the infection.
On a positive note, one of the night nurses was a young man who obviously worked out (this boy had guns like you wouldn't believe.) When he went to take my blood pressure and saw the vein in the grove of my elbow and my bicep, he looked at me and said "Uh, do you work out a lot?":+ It made my day. So often we women are too hard on ourselves about our excess body fat and don't give ourselves credit for what we do. It was nice to be acknowledged in some small way!
Anyway thanks for "listening" and I'm much better now.
Take care,
