frustrated with temptation....

I know we all have our temptations but I have really been focusing on drinking less alcohol and eating out. I cook healthy things for the whole week for myself and it seems that there is always some temptation lately.

Tonight work wants me to meet out with vendors at a bar, then SO calls and says lets go to dinner tonight after that and lets do dinner out Saturday too after we see a small production play. I had planned for us to do dinner tomorrow night ONLY. So now I am looking at 3 nights of eating out and temptation with having a drink. I feel bad saying no but I also don't trust myself eating out this often as I won't make the best choices and I feel to lose these last pounds I have to be especially strict.

It's always a sudden event or upcoming event and I wonder how the heck I will reach these goals. Sorry....had to rant.

It's hard enough just staying away from everyday temptations to eat more or a little chocolate or whatever. x(

I can understand your frustration. Eating out three times in a row would be a lot for me, too. It is much easier when you can control what you are making.

That being said, it isn't the end of the world if it did happen like that for this week. I would think as long as it is not a pattern. Just try to stick to grilled foods, sauce on the side, you know all the good stuff ;) As far as a drink, I would reserve one of the nights for that. I usually do that kind of thing.

I hear you. My DH wanted to take the whole family out to dinner last night... and we're going out just the two of us with another couple on Sat. Last night, I had just one glass of wine, one piece of bread, and made sensible choices for my entree. While our girls were devouring a piece of chocolate mousse cake, my DH and I split a sambuca, with him consuming most of it. We also ended up taking a lot of food home. I guess my point is, just because you're at a restaurant, you don't have to ditch all your goals... but on the other hand, you shouldn't deprive yourself of a little treat either. I figure I'll do an extra twenty minutes of cardio this weekend, and it will all even out.

Yes I hear ya. I usually have my dinner at a caloric intake of 300 calories to keep on track. It's almost impossible to do that at a restuarant. I eat 5 times a day so even a wise choice at a restaurant can blow it for me...I think I'm just in a bad mood today.;-)

Great advice. I was going to say the same thing. My SO eats out ALL the time because his job requires it--he's in sales and it's just part of the deal--but he always manages to make great decisions. He usually will have one drink and pick a healthy meal and save the fun stuff (bread/dessert/an extra drink) for when he eats out with me or our friends. It CAN be done. Don't deprive yourself so much when your at the restaurants that you become miserable and make everyone else uncomfortable. Eat half of what is on your plate and take the rest home (or tell the waiter to ditch it!) Eating out doesn't have to be the equivalent of bingeing. It can be done often and still be healthy. Just try to be patient with yourself, have fun, and relax. I think you'll be surprised at how well you end up doing. And if you usually eat 5 smaller meals, try to eat just 3 or four on those days you're going to eat out and save up some of those calories for your dinners out this week (and then throw in a little extra cardio this weekend to make yourself feel better if you need to!) :)

I don't see how you can eat dinner at home with only 300 calories! I guess it's possible but I sure don't (which is probably my problem:eek: ). I do what your not supposed to do and that is eat light during the day and consume the majority of my calories at dinner. My husband does that, he won't eat at all sometimes during the day and then he'll eat alot (and I mean alot) at dinner. He never gains. I would like to lose like 5 to 7 pounds and I know I could do it fairly quickly if I could just eliminate eating at night and eat more sensibly at dinner. I've made it a habit now, eating dinner kindof late or snacking after dinner. It's a wonder I haven't gained a ton of weight. I haven't, but my used-to-be lean stomach isn't so lean anymore. Its not bad, but it's definately not what it used to be. As far as eating outgoes, you've gotten good advice already. Don't do appetizers, get a grilled entree, it may not be what you want compared to what else they have, but once your full it won't matter. You'll be glad you made the wiser choice. It's like working out, you don't feel like doing it but once you've done it you feel so good about yourself. Don't eat bread and don't do a dessert. If you want a drink, just sip some wine. It will not sabotage your weight loss efforts. It would be a different story if your were doing it every night or throwing back a bunch of beer. I've got a friend who loves to drink beer, claims it doesn't make you gain weight, and complains about how her metabolism is frozen and no matter what she does (except eliminating beer of course) she can't lose weight. I don't get why she can't make the connection. Anyway, I'm rambling. Just don't sweat it, you'll be fine!
