Frustrated with step coreography

Long ago, perhaps a year or so, someone suggested me to start with Step Heat or Mega Step Blast. It's only recently that I started trying them. First I tried MSB, then SH, and decided to continue with SH first. After having done Step Heat four times, I am starting to get frustrated. Because no matter how much I practice, rewind, replay, or slow motion, I just can't get some moves, especially the ones that require traveling around the step. Is this normal for a beginner or is it just me? Is Basic Step easier to learn?

I would definitely recommend ordering Basic Step. It is very basic and a lot slower. There are no power moves and I don't think you go around the step at all, but I could be wrong. Once you master that workout, then you can do Body Fusion (also on the DVD) which has some power moves and is just a bit more difficult, choreography wise, than Basic Step.

Hi - The Basic Step DVD is a good place to start. Please keep trying even if you don't ever get all the moves. Also you can try other instructors with shorter workouts to help you learn the moves. Believe me, I have been where you are not so long ago. I started with Gilad's Step Workout on the Beach - very basic, but it's a good way to learn and a decent 40 minute workout. From there I went to Kelli Robert's Ultimate Step - a little more complicated but a very good workout. From there, Kari Anderson's Fitness Formula and Body Tech. I then moved on to Step Heat. I still modify when I don't get all the moves and have found that the more I do the workouts, I get a little better each time.

I really do understand how frustrated you are, but if you can find workouts that have good music, I find that will keep you going even if you have to modify.

Good luck

The saying pratice makes perfect is so true. Even people who are experienced steppers have to work to learn new workouts. Most of them don't come easy. I started years ago with a Kathy Smith step workout. It was very basic but helped me get the moves down.Don't give up!! Its too much fun once you get your feet cooperating with each other.:D Renee

I started Step classes when it first came on the scene in California, over 15 years ago. It is MUCH easier to be in a live class situation, learning combinations from behind the instructor than it is to watch it on a video, facing her/him. The previous recommendations to start with Cathe's Basic Step are right on. You can build from here and gain confidence. Don't give up, you'll get it. :)

I totally agree with Renee

I was exactly the same way - My first purchase was AllStep since it came with my step -I got SOOO frustrated I sold it. Now a year later I decided to give Cathe another try - I bought it again and after a few tries I really like it, in fact I LOVE the choreography. Don't worry - It takes me at least 4 or 5 times to get each section in a workout. Hang in there, if I can get the hang of it, anyone can:)
