Friday fun - do you say words that aren't really words?

L Sass

Cathlete
Like "nother"? I know "another" is a real word, but I always catch myself saying "well that's a whole nother story" and then realizing there is no such word. Funny - Cathe says it in IMAX2 when she mentions that "the rest of the workout really kicks it up a whole nother level" or something to that effect. It's not a word. Any others?

Lorrie

I'll be walking the Komen 3-day (60 miles) the week after Cathe's RT. Here's my webpage.

Prolly instead of probably. I also say sammich sometimes (I know that bugs someone on here, but can't remember who).

I say nother sometimes too.

And for some reason, my family has resorted to saying Hasty Murfday instead of Happy Birthday. I can't for the life of me remember how it started though.

RE: Friday fun - do you say words that aren't really wo...

I've just noticed my kids and their friends saying, supposibly instead of supposedly, I'm trying to nip that one in the bud..... we like to say 'ih ohn inh oh' instead of 'I don't think so', anyone remember that from the do-it-yourself-tongue-pierced guy from Rat Race? Thinking of it still cracks me up. Umbrellas are underbrellas in our house from when my 17 y.o. was just learning to speak.

That was me & it didn't bug me, I love it--my Nana came off the boat from Albania & never learned to pronounce it correctly. I always thought it was adorable.

She did pretty darn well for herself--she crossed the ocean on her own w/2 babies at the age of 19 & taught herself to read & write English.

OK I know, totally O/T but I'm very proud of my Nana. :)

My brother and nephews say "pompf" for poop like "I gotta go take a pompf"
When someone says something stupid my nephew often responds with a seal like barking noise "ARRR! ARRR! ARR!"

I personally like to say things have "pischnizzle" which I may have borrowed from some criminal gangsta rapper but I like it.

When someone had a birthday and was wrapping up presents, people would ask what I was doing. I didn't want to be rude, so I would say nunya. Or if someone was being surprised for something, and another person would ask questions in front of that person, I again would say nunya. It is short for "none of your business."

The idea is to die young as late as possible.

I'm not gaining weight. I'm retaining food.

I actually make up a ton of words on the fly. I often have a hard time remembering them later though. What's funny is that many times when those words come out, it's at work and all my co-workers have been around be enough that they know absolutely what I'm talking about! (or is that scary?)

Fantabulous is one of my favorites.

(I know that there are more, I just woke up to register, now I'm back to bed!)

I often say "otay" instead of okay.... why, I haven't a clue!
Cute Friday fun question.

RE: Friday fun - do you say words that aren't really wo...

Most of mine come from my son -

Instead of mad or upset, we say "poody." Actually, my mom and I are responsible because when he was a baby, he was very temperamental (and still is! ;-) ) so we'd say he was "moody-poody." Over the years, it dropped to just poody.

The other one he says is byoot - rhymes with cute. That's his word for farts because he says that's the sound it makes. LOL! :+

He's already 10, I guess we need to start correcting him so he's not saying these words until he's 30. :D

Hi Shelly! :) We say otay too!! For me it comes from the Eddie Murphy days of SNL when he used to do Buckwheat skits! So funny, so not PC;-)

Debbie, your influence is very wide spread, my 17 y.o. DDs skater buds love to say Bombdiggety too:7

I was born and raised in Memphis, Tenn.

Fixin' to....example . I'm fixin to go to the store!

Ya'll..... Are ya'll coming over tonight?

Axe instead of ask ... Can I axe you a question?

RE: Friday fun - do you say words that aren't really wo...

No, because I'm the language snob that started the thread picking on my coworker who says "axe", "Kwashi" and "Sir Lanka". :)

I have another coworker, who I really like, who has said several times in the last two days, "I want to see it to 'tuition'". I don't have the heart to tell her it's "fruition". She's really cute.

I started saying "eh" when I moved close to the Canadian border. But the funny thing is, I work with a lot of Canadians and none of them say it!

I say member a lot instead of remember. My DS always corrects me. He is 6!
We all say battry instead of battery. It is something my grandfather says, and we all think it funny.
He also says light bub.
Oh my favorite is when he says that he's cookin up some roastin ears. The first time he said it I had no clue what he was talking about.
He grew up on a farm in Kentucky!
