For those who tried light weights w/ many reps and heavy weights w/ light weights...

Which gave you better results in slimming down? Keeping diet and cardio the same.

There's just so much controvercy on what to do if you're trying to slim down it's veryconfusing. So I want to see what actual results people got.

definately heavier weights, meaning a weight that i am challenged to push out the last rep. Diet is key of course...but since January, with consistant training, i've dropped 7lbs, but 3 sizes. Good Luck!

I thought heavy wieghts made you bulk up more, and lighter eights but more reps made you lean out. Am I right because that's what I did (heavy wieghts low reps, but more sets) and I bulked up.

It all depends on the person, the body, the genetics...not everyone is the same and no one gets the same results from the same workout.

Using myself as an example...I am VERY short (5 foot...almost) so I have very short limbs, so any muscle mass I gain shows very easily. Genetically, I put muscle on very easily as well. Put the two characteristics together and I have to stay with the high rep workouts to get the results I want. When I go heavy, I don't do it for long because I get more muscle mass than I want....I feel I look too bulky.

Now, while I stick mostly to the high reps and the circuit workouts, I do pick a weight that has me lifting to failure.

Sarah, I'm also 5'0 :) So you achieved that body (you look GREAT!) with high reps, like ME or PH? Or what type of workouts do you do?

May I ask how much you weigh?

Thanks :)

I do stick to ME, MM, PH and circuits like BC, HSTA, HSC. Often, I'll take a circuit workout and sub ab work for the cardio since I usually get my cardio fix via running or elliptical (currently marathon training). Last time I checked my weight it was 105. I think that was in May. Oh, and every now and then I will do a few weeks of the Gym Styles and that really increases my strength, but again, only a few weeks because I muscle up easily. I know, it's tough to be me!!:p

I'm pretty much an ectomorph(tends towards no muscle) with some endomorph (tends towards fat) mixed in and heavy weights make me strong more than bulky. If I do too much light weight/high rep work, I not only feel it in my joints more, but I don't see much muscle. Even with the heavy weights, I don't look as strong as I am.

Someone who is more of a mesomorph (builds muscle easily) and/or who has short muscle insertions would tend to look bulky more easily.
