for runners who wear a hr monitor

How high do you let your hr get.I can hold mine at 154-164 for 49 min(as of today-increasing 1 min everyworkout) that is 82%-88% according to info I inputed onto hr monitor -not the formulas with resting hr.I can't get my hr down to the lower zone.Do I need to set the hr for the heavy work load or leave it at medium does it make a difference.I feel good running with this hr but feel it may be a little high.so I was wondering where you keep your hr.FYI-I have just started running endurance instead of sprints about 2 months ago.I still do sprints sometime mixed in.I know there are alot of factors that affect the numbers but I would really like to know where everyone else is.plus the hr monitor is somewhat new also.TIA

I only run with my HRM occasionally because the numbers don't vary much from run to run. I usually run for 60-70 minutes.

My heartrate is much higher with running than any other activity - usually 160s-170s. This is an easy run for me - no sprints or intervals. With spinning, my average heartrate is usually in the 140s.

The best thing to do is a test to figure out your Max heart rate. I haven't really refigured with my resting HR. Just remember also...training in your 90% zone should only be done once or twice a week. Also...step and other workouts should have a Max HR lower than running...:)...Carole

I always wear my heart rate monitor while running! There really are a lot of factors that will affect what your "target range" is. I know the way my monitor calculates my range...and it is off. It bases it on my height, weight and AGE!!!! That generalizes it a bit, so I think that the older you are, the more likely you would benefit by figuring out your target zone range based on your resting heart rate and enter it into your monitor watch. I am 32 and greatly benifit from figuring out my range based on resting heart rate.

I keep my heart rate mid to high 160's during training. I check it all the time for refrence. If I am feeling awesome, I want to know what the beats are so I know were to stay in the future.

Does this help???

yes it does help.I was worried that it was to high compared to my other aerobic workouts. But it looks like I am on target because I feel good at this pace.
