I am having severe jaw pain, it hurts to chew. It starting hurting yesterday, and is worse today. I just went to the dentist 3 weeks ago, so I know I am not having any dental problems, I have a big swollen gland where my jaw meets my neck. Only on one side. I have had no fever, no colds, no sore throat, no earache, nothing going on. Mouth and throat looks fine. I don't grind my teeth at night...I am totally stumped. I am broke right now, so I dont want to go to the doc, unless it could be something serious.

Any opinions?

Hi,
I'm not an MD but I remember seeing your posts about your DH and all. Frankly, I think it's stress BIG time. Finding out this can do a number on your health because it's so stressful and you feel sick, etc.... I had that when an ex-boyfriend cheated. Your body must be extremely tense right now and that is normal. I could be wrong but it seems like a BIG time stress to me. Even though the news was terrible, try not to think about it. I know it isn't easy but you have to try. It's for your own health. Hope someone else can give you a different answer which I am sure they will. Take care!

Joanna - I think stress IS a good possibility. Maybe you're clenching your jaw in your sleep or something? I would say that if it doesn't get better in a couple days, see your doctor. And maybe to KPC a few times to work out some of that anger!

I thought it may be stress related, but the side of my neck/face is so swollen and painful, I just dont know what is going on. Thanks for responding....it has been a very stressful week. It is nice to have people to talk to on here about it.

Thanks,

Joanna

What a good idea Donna.....I feel like I need to do some punching right now. I did PUB this morning when I got up.....maybe I will squeeze in KPC before DH(Not for Dear or Darling)gets home.

Thanks,

Joanna

That is normal if you're upset. The swelling. Have you been eating all right? You might be lacking some kind of a vitamin. Like Donna said you probably clenched your jaw in your sleep without knowing it. I do that to myself sometimes. Are you also holding in something you want to let out to your DH or someone? Also, like Donna said, do KPC or a good, hard workout and pretend you're kicking your DH's butt while working out. ;-)

Did you have some work done when you went to the dentist? If so, do you think that maybe an infection started?

Joanne

Maybe it's TMJ. Doubtful though. I would see a doctor.

Also, I know it sounds unlikely but you probably have a sinus infection. With your swollen glands that is what it sounds like. No runny nose or stuffed nose at all? Your sinus cavities run along your jaw line.

Still hurting......but a lot worse when I chew, still no fever. I have been taking advil, and putting heat on it, it seems to help. Thanks for asking. If it is not better later this week, I am going to my doctor.

Thanks again,

Joanna

Joanna.

Go to the doctor now. I am not being an alarmist but seriously don't put things off. I learned my lesson a few years back. I had swelling and waited till the pain was so bad and the swelling made me look like elephant woman before I went in. I wound up in the hospital with IV antibiotics. So please go asap. Especially if you are under stress. As stress can lower the ability to fight off infection if you indeed do have one. You will feel better mentally once you go. Knowing is half the battle. Good luck and I hope things get better at home too.
