Food for a birthday party

DD's birthday party is in about three weeks. She turns 6. Anyway, I have no idea what kind of food to have at the party. Well, I do know that we will have heart-shaped, chocolate cupcakes with sprinkles on top. Other than that, I'm at a loss.

I need your food ideas.

Pizza or hot dogs are always good for kid's parties. If you get pizza, I would go with plain cheese or one cheese and one pepperoni. Kids aren't so much with the fancy schmancy pizza toppings;)

Kids usually like things like baby carrots with dip, whole grain tortilla chips with some salsa mixed with a bit of sour cream, pita wedges. I always have potato chips too. My DD doesn't get them very often, so it's a treat for her and her friends.

I was going to suggest letting the kids make their own pizzas. This may be more trouble than you want to get yourself into with a bunch of 6 year olds. But it certainly would keep them occupied for awhile. Buy some small pizza crusts, cheese, and various toppings (pepperoni, bacon, veggies, etc.).

If the idea is for you to do as little as possible, then just go with something easy -- pizza or sandwiches or something.
