flatter stomach?

Cathlete
Hi Cathe,
My abs have always sticked out + I have no hips (which makes my stomach appear even bigger).
Is there a way to flatten the stomach?
Thank you,
Katia

Hi Katia! Yes there's hope to shrink that tummy!!:7 Do you happen to have Cathe's AbHits DVD? If not, I highly recommend it. She's compiled all of her ab exercises onto this one DVD. Also, I would suggest you do pilates for abs + couple this with very good nutrition (your nutrition is the most important thing) & your tummy will shrink in no time. Do ab exercises for 15 min. 3-4x a week. Good luck! Kathy:D

Katia:

when you get Ab Hits, or when you alternate between doing the varying ab workouts you have already in your collection, try to make sure that you alternate between the type of exercise that you do for the abdominal muscles so that you hit each and every musle eah week in a variety of ways. This will ensure that you strengthen the entire core/abdominal region, not just keep hitting the muscles that you favour from the exercises that you favour.

I like the ab routine from MIS, it's traditional abs and very thorough. I use this as my base and do this once or twice per week. On top of this I add my favourite ab routines which work more the core and these moves come from Cathe's newer routines. I personally like the Ab /core premix from Bootcamp a lot, also the core work from Cardio & Weights and also from PUB. These are my staples to keep the whole region in shape.

The extent to which your stomach "looks" flat however, regardless of how toned the underlying muscles are, is a question of genetics and your predisposition to keep a little fat there. Maybe diet and cardio work can help with this, but genetics is a hard nut to crack, so some of us have to accept that we will carry a little more fat there than Cathe, for example, and just get on with our lives!

Katia,
I agree with Clare, Ab Hits is wonderful. I have been doing traditional abs (like those in MIS) and the first time I did her plank abs - HOLY COW! My ARMS were shaking and I couldn't stay up! BUT that was REALLY motivating to me because I know that those plank exercises are really getting alot of muscles!!

I would just like to add that Pilates have done something so wonderful to my stomach. I have always had a little "pouch" and I just assumed it wouldn't go away. I started doing basic Pilates and within a few weeks my Husband was like "where did your belly go?". I do Pilates in the morning and regular exercises at night. I am not suggesting that you do that but just maybe incorporate some basic pilates in with the AB Hits and you will be AMAZED!!!!

I was just wondering, which pilates workout do you use? There are so many out there today, so I'm not sure which is the best.

Thanks!

I started with Kathy Smith's Pilates for Abs, moved up to Pilates for Dummies (WONDERFUL!) then moved up to Winsor Pilates - I am now doing her new one (well new in January). It has really strengthened my core alot. I really enjoy it and actually found it is an exercise I can actually do in the morning - I am NOT a morning person - moodwise and creaky bodywise.

If you really don't have the time and don't want to get too far into it - I would really suggest the Pilates for Dummies. I forget the instructor's name off the top of my head - but she is wonderful. I know - Michelle Dor-something.

Hi there. I have the Winsor Pilates orginal set, but have not done it yet. Would this work? Is there a specific abs winsor that you use? (Not sure which is which.......new to the pilates scene!!).

Thanks again.
