Fit Mom's Check-in 11/06

Cathlete
Autumn, Thank you, I just ordered the P90X set! I am soooooo excited! $91 all together. Now Autumn and Briee, I know I will need to use something for a pull up bar (how many can you do so far?), but is there any other equipment I will need besides weights? Did you order a pull up bar or do you use something else for it?

Well, they said it would take 2 weeks for delivery. Hopefully it comes sooner than that.

Also, my accomplishment this week is no refined sugar, no white flour, and no hydrogenated fats! Wonder if i can keep this up...

Mon- S&H chest & triceps
Tue- S&H back & biceps + CTX Step & Intervals
Wed- S&H shoulders + PLB floor work + CTX All Step
Thu- PLB standing exercises + Imax Int. 5-10
Fri- KP&C
Sat- Imax 2

Max has been waking up at night this week. I think he is getting his second molar. I am tired! It's also getting so cold here, I already feel like the fall is over and it's winter.

Hi all,
Emy, I like the mixes you used. I may try your rotation. I hope max feels better. When Alexis is teething badly I give her motrin before bed and also send her to bed with a frozen washcloth. Alexis still has only her 2 bottom teeth. Emy, great job with the eating.
Alexis has now adjusted well to the time change and for the past 2 days not only took her 1-1.5 hour morning nap but napped for almost 2 hours in the afternoon. She is starting to stand on her own and walks with walker toys(ok we have no walker toys, she uses her high chair or our kitchen chairs. ) She will be walking soon.
I am goin to get another pair of supras, the store is getting a pair from their other store. For $31.20 I'll put it away until I need them.

My proposal for a challenge is adding in one tough workout each week til christmas. My thoughts are: workouts from the terminator, standing legs extreme from legs/glutes, mic, bodymax etc.

My workout week:
Sunday-attempted to do gforce superstep, starting and stopping , finally called it quits about 3/4 through and did the new firm one with chrisa and fat blasting cardio. . Later took a walk to the park.
Monday-firm super cardio plus 5 day abs-day 3
Tues-firm-lower body split
Wed-firm-upper body split=calorie killer
Thurs-rythmic step+tae bo-8 min. workout
Friday-firm-cardio sculpt
sat-firm-cardio burn-tae bo live adv. -vol. 2

Hi Emy and all fit mom's!! Glad you got such a deal Emy!! I have a pull up bar in the door way, but I'm not happy with it. I'm still waiting for dh to install one that sticks out a foot and is braced into the cement wall, so I can quit banging my head on the doorframe!! I can do 7 sometimes, but I can do a solid 5 all the time, (except within the P90X workout...when my arms are fried it just doesn't work). I place a chair way out in front and use a straight leg with the other leg raised to do the remainder and sometimes I just work the negative....Pull up to the top assisted and then lower down REALLY slow. I seem to be "stuck" at this point. I'm going to try lots of negative pullups to get through this "sticky" point. My back has developed quite a bit more muscle and definition from pullups, something I've never had before. This gives one a much more balanced appearance and more of a "V" shape. I really notice the muscle development when I grasp my hands behind to stretch. There is muscle in the way now and I can't get my hands together so easily. I went really heavy this week and noticed that I gained a pound or two on the scale. I know I haven't eaten too much as I've been really watching my intake, so hopefully there's a little muscle there.

Sun - L&G 39 min standing; S&H legs HEAVY
Mon - Back and Biceps 1/2; Imax II
Tues - Back and Biceps in it's entirety; Ab Ripper; 1 1/2 hours Karate class at night.
Wed - Yoga X
Thurs - Stretch X
Fri - SJP Step and HiLo premix; SJP Abs; S&H Legs HEAVY; shoulders HEAVY; Chest presses HEAVY; Pull ups sets; AND Ab ripper X....this was a fun day. My dd watched the little ones and I got to work out from 11am to 2 pm....I never get to do this :7 :7
Sat - Rest - I deserved this. ;)

I'm giving my abs a crash course to get them back on track. Emy....sounds like you had an exceptionally clean eating week. Congratulations!!!!! Mine was okay, except during church today....I snuck out and went to Kwik Trip for a donut and small coffee. I figured I was watching a squirming baby in back and couldn't hear anyway, so I defected :-(

I feel like such a failure. Of all the days, I only succeeded one day at no chocolate. Oh well. I've grown from my experience, and I now crave chocolate a lot less. So, all is not lost. ;)

I was thinking the other day that I need to sit up more straight & that my posture isn't as good as it should be. Anyone else have this struggle? I find that I stand taller with higher heels. I wonder if this is true, or I just feel taller & therefore just feel as if I'm standing more straight? I feel so philosophical today. :D :D

I was doing Step Jam this week & finding myself just zoning out b/c it's an older workout and I've done it so much. I was just wondering. Have any of you ladies tried to smile throughout an entire workout...you know, pretend you were actually in one of Cathe's videos? Silly question, I know...but I tried to smile once throughout an entire video and it's very difficult. I don't know how those ladies do it.

Sun: I-Max 2
Mon: off
Tue: Mindy Mylera's Extreme Intervals
Wed: Step Jam
Thurs: off
Fri: MIC step & intervals only
Sat: off

Elyse, that sounds good, one super dooper workout/week through holiays. We could put an astreik (*) next to our hard workout that week? (Since we all don't have same videos).

PS Hardcore Series looks awesome!!! Can't wait!!!!

Don't let it get you down, Melanie. Maybe instead of depriving yourself of chocolate, just alot yourself a regulated portion per day, and plan it in. Then you won't feel mad at yourself! I hear you on the posture issue. My mom (in her 60s) has already started to hunch a bit from bad posture. So it is really a concern of mine, being that I am shaped a lot like her. That could be me someday. I've even thought about going to a chiropractor to get my back "inspected" and get advice about how to prevent looking like my poor mom. It is an important issue. But, I know that strength training helps. Maybe this will be a way to motivate you to add in more strength training to your rotation! Cathe has said in at least one weight video that it will help improve your posture. (I think in Power Hour she says that in the intro?)

Shopaholic, I should give Max some infant pain reliever drops before I put him to bed. Good idea! He is stirring right now, maybe I should go give him some before I go to bed. I hear you on G Force Super Step. I like complex choreography, but that workout is crazy. They all keep rotating, then changing the orders, then Patrick is sooo complicated, and the grand finale makes me crazy. That is one workout I would like to trade! Curious, what are supras, are they shoes? And yes, I like your challenge idea. I will add in one extra tough workout per week.

Briee, Friday you did an insane workout! Wow! I am excited for pull ups, still trying to figure out what I'll do about a pull up bar.

Autumn, Thanks for emailing me back the info, you are so helpful! First, I will take a test, then if negative, I will start taking temps to see if I am even ovulating. I could be having occassional periods and not be ovulating, right.

Hi all,
Melanie, give yourself some slack. see, now you know why I didn't agree to the challenge. Too hard to eliminate especially the week of Halloween.
Emy, I definely felt the baby motrin helped with teething along with the baby oragel. Alexis is either teething or has a little cold as she was up a few times lat night which is unlike her. I am glad you had trouble, emy, with superstep as you do some tricky choreography. Just as I thought the tape was done they kept changing the choreographt, now one of Patrick's, one of Darren's. I nearly threw something at the tv. Supras are aerobic sneakers by Ryka. They are the model following the styllus. i found a pair at a local discount sneaker store.

Hi Everyone!
Wow looks like everyone had a good week!
Briee your week looks killer! Emy are you trying to get pregnant?I think it sounds soooo fun to be pregnant again-my little guy is only 9 months old-but i want to have my kids really close.:)
well here is my week:

sat.-PUB/4 mile walk
sun.-Gauntlet/abs
mon. pure s.bis,tris,shoulders/time sav. shoulders/add.shoulders/abs/4 mile walk
tues.-ctx step &interv./T.S. step combo #1/abs
wed.-muscle end./add. shoulders/4miles
thurs.5 mile run
fri.-PUB /add. shoulders/3 mile walk
sat.PLB/3mile walk
sun.-rest
I am trying to build up my shoulders...any hints???;)

Oh you guys! I didn't REALLY feel like a failure. It'd sure take a lot more than that to make me feel that way. I WAS disappointed in my willpower though. ;)

I guess I"m the only one who's pretended that they're in the video, eh? I'm so silly. You guys should try it though. It's kinda fun. :D :D

Smiley, our baby's are close in age and I'd be estatic to be pregnant again. One more time, anyway. However, at the moment our 10 yr old is pretty challenging. DH may be scared if we got pregnent at the moment. ;) He'd get over it though. He's such a wonderful Daddy. Baby Justin's been eating more solids & nursing less now. This may mean that pregnancy is sooner than farther away. :) Sure would be fun to bring the same gang along on another pregnancy. ;)

Hi ladies!

Emy, you are welcome for the P90X info and the information I emailed ya. That BeachBody site is a mess... I re-registered... it still doens't recognize me... I tested it and tried the "forgot your password"... and I was sent my password but I couldn't log in to my account. Anyway, I am glad you placed the order and hope you find them worth every penny and then some. My DH was "supposed" to do the workouts so he wanted the tower. He isn't using the DVDs becasue he has a few herniated discs in his neck, so a good reason. Other than weights and access to pull-ups, I would recommend a good mat for yoga... we have hardwood floors that I sometimes workout on... a good mat is a must... I have a cheaper mat that I can use on carpet but not the hardwood. You are correct... you can have anovulatory bleeding. Hopefully, you are ovulating (my fingers a crossed).

Shopaholic, you found Rykas for $31.20!!! Wow! Can't pass up a deal like that.

Briee, I am exhausted just reading your Friday workout. :) Very impressive!!

Melanie, I pretend too! I like to pretend I am leading a class... never gonna happen but it is fun to pretend. :D

It is my turn to read to Sydney... gotta go.

Sun - Yoga X
Mon - Core Synergistics
Tues - Kenpo X
Wed - X Stretch
Thurs - Rest
Fri - Core Synergistics
Sat - Rest... I just couldn't get motivated to do yoga

Hello Ladies,

I am continually amazed at the workouts all of you put in each week - truly inspiring :)

It was a big week for Maisie - she got her first 2 teeth on the bottom. She was 18 weeks old. Both DH and I were early teethers as well. That would explain the drool and crankies lately.
The whole Daylight Savings time is rather annoying. Maisie goes to sleep at 7pm. Well, with the time change I just started putting her down at the new 7pm - worked well until last Wednesday. She was sleep deprived and waking up every 45 minutes or so! AHHH! Was so exhausted and frustrated! Finally gave it up for now and she is going to bed at 6pm. Oh well - will try to inch her back to 7pm by adding 15 minutes every week - hopefully in a month she will be adjusted. How are you able to get your babies adjusted to the time change?

Melanie - I'm in the same boat as you. I did well last Monday & Tuesday with the chocolate - but, after the horrible Wednesday I had, it all went down hill. I admit it...chocolate was my comfort food. I made a big ole pan of brownies and DH and I finished it off by the weekend. Yum!
P.S. I pretend too! Usually to keep boredom at bay ;)

Anyway, here are my workouts:

Sunday - off
Monday - KenpoX
Tuesday - Keep It Up & Slim and 6 Pack
Wednesday - horrible day! No workout.
Thursday - Bootcamp
Friday - Winsor Pilates: Accelerated Body Sculpting
Saturday - off

Have a great week everyone!

Melanie...I have to be honest here.....chocolate is NOT a driving force in my life...I can go for weeks without it...but darn it.....last week I thought about it all week. I ate some peices of the locarb dark chocolate bar and momentum's lo carb bar and I found myself wanting it more than ever ;( ;( . How about if next week we try to eat as much of it as we can and I won't even want it then!!:7 .
I think your doing very well and I know FOR SURE that you're running it all off!!!

Very good idea shopaholic....we'll try for one big workout per week. That's kind of what I was doing last week with my Friday workout and I was thinking that I'd like to get in one of these each week. Your cardio tape sounds very interesting. Is it "interval like" by chance? Sometimes it's fun to do a tough choreographed step routine as you forget you're working out because your brain is concentrating so much on where to step next (sounds like I may be a little toooo lost on that one)!! I know I've asked this before, but how would you rate Mindy's Extreme Intervals compared to say IMAX I or II. I'm plain bored of these and need another interval tape and I don't know if I can wait for Cathe's - I bet I could find this on Ebay right??

Runathon if you happen to read this...I found the recipe in one of my "folders" in my saved file. Now go do that P90X!!!

Briee

forgot to add shopaholic....noticed that you did Tae Bo 8 minute workout as part of your workout. Isn't this a fun one? I haven't done it in a while...but I think I'll try to do this in the week to come. I haven't done Tae Bo in quite some time now, does anyone have the new tae bo extreme (I think that's what it's called) and what do you think of it?

briee

Christy - I had a weird way of dealing with daylight saving. For 2 nights I kept Max up late - maybe 2 hours past bed time. Then on the third night, I put him to bed at the new time. And he was so exhausted that he just adjusted right away. Smiley - Yeah, we're pretty much welcoming pregnancy. I'm a week and a half late, but I have only had one period so far, so no schedule is established.

Hey Smiley

I'm working hard on shoulders too. I've been spending maybe two days per week doing some heavy shoulder work, but only preceeded by LOTS of rotator cuff warmups (hold your hands out to the side and do about 2 minutes of circles some with fingers pointed down and then up and alternate circling around forward then backward. When your shoulders are good and warm - then do a few heavy sets (maybe 2) of overhead presses, side raises, and rear delt raises, maybe even some rows if you feel good. Cathe does a lot of endurance weight workouts - the problem is shoulders can easily get injured if you work them for too long and especially at heavy weights which is probably why she keeps the weight light. I'm wanting to GROW so I want to go heavy and keep the sets shorter with breaks in between. I'm wondering if she will hit this in the hardcore. :7 :7 One can only HOPE!!!

Briee

RE: Hey Smiley

Autumm, yeah I couldn't pass up Rykas for $31.20 which is why i am going to get another pair.
Briee, i like tae bo -8 min. workout as a add on. i use it for ab work. I just ordered some tae bo lives from amazon.com. I have vol. 2 and really like it. Tae bo extreme sounds great but i'll wait til it lowers in price. Briee, which cardio tape were you asking about?
Emy, good luck getting pregnant.
Melanie, I loved Justin's Halloween picture. Glad you liked Alexis's Halloween picture.
Hi to smiley and kristi and all you other moms as well.

RE: Hey Smiley

Briee- how heavy do you go? The hardest thing for me to do is overhead press with a barbell.I dont know why-but is is so much easier to use good form with weights. So you just do your own shoulder work?or do you add on extra after a workout?

I'm pregnant

I took the test and I'm pregnant! So I guess I'm straddling the line between the fit moms and pregnancy check-ins! I want to know if anyone has done P90X while pregnant?

PS- Shopaholic, Alexis looks so grown up in her pooh picture!

RE: I'm pregnant

Oh Emy BIG BIG BIG HUGS AND CONGRATULATIONS. I'm so happy for you. But I'm REALLY sad that you are leaving us. Maybe you can stay for a while???....like you won't really be considered pregnant until you are "showing"???? :7 :7 :7

Regarding the P90X and pregnancy....sure, why not, just be sure you don't bump your belly on the pullup bar and for pushups you'll only have to go down half way because you'll bump your belly on the floor......now I hope you know that I'm kidding. I seriously think this would not be the time to jump into the P90X. I'm not saying that I personally wouldn't try it, because I probably would. BUT I know that my body would quickly head into the morning sickness/tired mode and ALL would be history. I was glad that I didn't get it until 5 months postpartum because I could have never done it any sooner. I would think you would want to go into the P90X at your very best otherwise you will get discouraged and bag it. Save it....Tony can wait until your holding your little baby!! If you do try to proceed...I would use bands and just go very easy. I'd skip chest and back altogether.

Smiley...I don't use a barbell for overhead shoulder presses (although it would probably be wise to do this every so often just to have a variety of ways to hit the shoulder). I'm using a pair of 25# dumbells for overhead presses, 2-3 sets of 6-10 reps. I rotate doing them as arnold presses, normal straight up, P90X style. I use 15# dumbells for side lat raises. The rear delts are a tough one for me. I start with 12# and sometimes drop to 10. These weights are completely an individual thing. You do what you can, but be sure you go heavy enough to only complete 6-8 reps if possible. BE incredibly careful to warm up VERY well. Shoulder injuries can be a bummer. I have a pain in my right shoulder that has been flaring up lately. Tae Kwon Do is making it much worse. Some days I concentrate solely on shoulders and other times I add these sets in at the end of a leg day. I don't like doing them after other upperbody workouts as I'm generally too tired. Let me know how it goes!!
