Finally, a House!

Hey All!

Well after almost a year of slogging through every house in Rhode Island it seems, we finally found a house - in Connecticut! I am really excited. It's almost exactly what we have been looking for, with beautiful land, tons of flowers, a big front porch, character, and history. We saw it on Wednesday, saw it again this morning, and had an offer in and excepted by 5pm. We close end of May/early June. Right now it has not quite sunk in but I am sooo happy!!

Here's a link for anyone curious:

YAAAY Sparrow! It looks wonderful and oozes with character, what's the kitchen like? Is the inside as warm and inviting looking as the outside? What a great sized lot, you must post pictures when the gardens are in full bloom. I'm so happy for you:)

Congratulations!! I love it! I LOVE older homes. The setting looks beautiful and peaceful. I'm officially jealous. :p :D

Tell us about the history. I love a house with history! Now you'll need antiques. I can help with that:7

Hi Everyone!

Thanks for the congrats! This is such a great place to post good news, everyone is always so happy for each other :) I will post more pictures as I get them.

Laurie: the kitchen is HUGE. A little mudroom entrance area, plus enough room for some serious cooking and for putting a table and chairs in as well. Plus there is a pantry and a little laundry area with washer/dryer, and a screen to pull across to hide the dirty clothes from company! The only thing is it is not decorated to my taste. I prefer a more farm-y style and this is just sort of an everyday kitchen design. But as soon as DH recovers from the sticker shock of buying a house, I plan to launch my "new kitchen in '07" campaign. :7

Donna: it's definitely in keeping with New England! The town is an old historic agricultural one, so it has that great old feel to it.

Becky: the town is Pomfret Center. We found it quite by accident. I can't wait to explore - and find the libraries!

Kassia: the closing is happening pretty quickly. The sellers are retirees with the RV already parked in the yard, they are ready to head off and see the world ASAP! And, since DH and I aren't selling the current house, we don't have to wait for anything.

Anne: LOL! no kids! I do plan to fill it with my nieces and nephews, and any family members who want to sit on the front porch on a summer's day. :D Oh, and my mom has already informed me that I am on the hook to do Thanksgiving this year.

Michele: I was thinking of you walking through the house, the sellers are into antiques as well. I'm hoping they'll leave a few butter churns behind when they go! I love old houses too, there's such character to them. This one has great "extras" like stained glass windows going up the staircase, a working root cellar, and an old woodfired stove that actually works! It's in the kitchen (along with a good old modern GE one) and looks something like this:

So I am going to try my hand at cooking on it, let's hope I don't burn the place down. :D Also, if I may go off about it a bit more :p, there's a state park nearby, and one end of it, with hiking/biking, is withing walking distance of our place!

I honestly did not think I would find something this close to my "dream." Thanks again for the congrats, chicas. Sorry this is so long!

Sparrow,

I'm even more excited for you now you've fed us more details. You're bringing back memories of our previous home circa 1911. Blessings in your new abode.

Sparrow, your kitchen sounds like a dream and main floor laundry to boot! I love the gradual process of re-decorating; a chance to really make a house a home by stamping it with individual personality (don't necessarily love the price tag though, happy campaigning:) ). Your woodburning stove gave me warm fuzzy memories of my old Great Aunt Nelly, I was fascinated with her version of that stove as a child. Amazing how a picture can launch you back! Thanks for posting more details about your home, it sounds fabulous and it's lovely that you are so excited and appreciative:)

Take Care
Laurie
