Filling RX's from Canada?

I was looking to see if my BC was offered for cheaper than I currently pay thru CVS and stumbled upon this site:

They require prescription copies from your doc. This would save me about $75/year on BC, even with the one-time shipping fee. Do you think it's legit?

This pharmacy is regulated through the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association (you can see a listing of all pharmacies regulated in Manitoba here: http://www.napra.org/Content_Files/Files/Manitoba/Oct09PhoneDirectory.pdf). Manitoba does allow internet pharmacies, unlike most Canadian provinces (for good reason!).

However, a great many so-called internet pharmacies that are apparently based out of Canada are actually scams that will take your money and you should be so lucky if they actually send you something for it- but god knows what that something would be - talcum powder, adulterated substances, etc.

I get my retin-A from Canada b/c my insurance doesn't cover it. It costs about 30% of what the US pharmacies charge. I swear, I do not know how our pharmacies get away w/such a ridiculous mark up.

Thanks Morningstar! Do you know how the FDA regs compare to those of MPA? My friend is telling me not to take my chances w this and just shell out at CVS because they are FDA-regulated.

Laura, where do you order your medication from? Is it an online pharm?

The "drug" I'm looking for is actually the Nuvaring. The only thing I'd be worried about is if they send me expired stuff. The site seems pretty legit and the discount isnt so ridiculous that it looks suspicious but I dunno. I'm nervous about it. On the other hand, I just really hate giving $$ to pharm companies here when all they do is take advantage of people!!

I get my Renova from an online pharmacy in Mexico. It's the same stuff but it costs a fraction of what it costs in the U.S. I don't think I would buy something I actually had to ingest. Before I tried the Renova for the first time I applied it to a discreet location on my body to see if there was any reactions. It was fine and my skin looks great. I've order several times and never had a problem receiving what I ordered.

I don't put much trust in FDA regulations. A lot of the drugs that are sold here aren't manufactured in the US anyway but in China and other countries. Before the FDA even has as much as a clue people are already sick or dead like with Heperin a few years ago.

I always thought there is a problem with importing drugs. I used to buy homeopathic and OTC medicines from a German online pharmacy and stopped because it was such a hassle with customs.

THANK YOU!! I don't really trust FDA regs either. I asked my friend who is in pharmacy what she thinks and her argument was Canada could have the drug shipped from Mexico. I said "well doesn't the US do the same thing? It's the same drug so wouldn't it come from the same place?" She claimed "The FDA has tighter regulations so I won't trust Canadian sources." Well 1, this doesn't answer my question and 2 who says the FDA knows all? What, because it's an American, government-run entity? Sorry but no.

I heard that importing drugs whether online or in person was recently made legal so long as you have a prescription and it's for 90 days or less:

Actually, our Canadian standards are much higher than FDA, as a general rule. We often have a very difficult time getting drugs approved that have been approved for a long time in the States. The FDA doesn't exactly have a great record.

Anyway, these are two separate issues - the pharmacy is regulated by the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association; the drugs themselves are regulated by the Federal government.
