I just read an old thread on fiber and wanted to throw my 2 cents in. I eat a lot of fiber as I have a tendency towards diviticulitis. I eat loads of fiber; for breakfast I mix All Bran Buds, Uncle Sam's (flaxseed cereal) and Whole Wheat Mini Shredded Wheats with milk; for a 10:am snack it's black beans and corn mixed in with horseradish sauce (for a little kick), or carrots with mustard or a blackbean burger. For lunch I eat 3 vegetables and some protein and fruit; in the evening I eat a soyburger and tomatoes and a couple of glasses of wine; sometimes a lot of chocolate. I got really sick of eating this cereal so I decided to switch to a fiber breakfast (just not as many grams of fiber), I was eating oatmeal or the blackbean burger, within about 5 weeks I had gained 3 pounds. I could not figure it out as my morning cereal has got to be 400 to 450 calories which is very high and the alternative breakfast was much lower in calories. I definitely don't have a weight problem but I was puzzled. Anyway, the point is, I now have realized that my morning meal was so high in fiber that it kept the food moving out of my body at a faster rate. So I would definitely say to anyone who is trying to lose weight, add lots of fiber to your diet.
For the person that asked if you get Gas, you probably do at first but then your body gets so used to the foods that it just never happens after a while. I am a very healthy eater, but I love chocolate and wine and I enjoy (every day). Of course, I also am very strict about working out.
