feel like changing my name to "HANDY WOMAN"

Do you ever ask your husband/SO/general male figure in the house to do something and they never get to it so you end up doing it?
In the last 5 days I have:

1. Installed 2 sink faucets in the 2 bathrooms upstairs (that was an experience in itself). But my Home Depot book did help.
2. Painted the outer border of the garage to match the paint/seal we just did on the floor in there.
3. Installed cove base all around the perimeter of the garage because I pulled out the base boards when we sealed the floor.
4. Installed new weather stripping on the bottom of the garage door because every time it rains I have a lot of water in there.

All of this stuff we were supposed to do together when he took 3-4 days off last week. Granted I did not feel good, but I really wanted to get that garage done so he could start putting the cabinets together. I still would have been out there helping him. Thanks for letting me vent.:) I'm tempted to teach myself how to change the power steering hose as it has been leaking in my blazer and I AM the one who has to drive it.

So, what do you end up doing?

RE: feel like changing my name to

My DH seems to think that working 80 hours a week (of course being paid for 40) is okay... so I never see him and after a few years of this have found I can't rely much on whatever he says he'll do, because he's so tired he forgets. I end up doing a lot, but thankfully we don't have our own house to take care of!!

He takes out the trash and puts things up high since he's a foot taller than me. I'm kind of in charge of anything else, lightbulbs, smoke detectors, discovering the water heater is leaking and following up with the landlord, etc. (Because my 3/4 time job and 3/4 time law school program 25 miles away isn't enough, LOL...)

I think this is the most bitter post I've ever seen. Sorry, but I'm at my wits end on this tonight.

Oh...this would be a good way to get me started! DH was never a "handy man" but he was working with my dad a little this summer so now I think,he thinks,he knows what he is at.:eek:
I have painted,replaced light fictures,put up blinds,put up my curtains,I replace every light bulb,put together the coffee table set we bought...I could go on and on.Now that he thinks he is a handy man he has started doing things around the house.One being my laundry room/workout room...the place as been a mess for weeks now.He is finding other things to do then finish what he as started!

My DH takes forever to do things at times too! I'm convinced that there is a gene in men called the "LAZY gene"...atleast when it comes to doing things around the house! LOL

RE: feel like changing my name to

You need my husband.
He cleans the house and i mean cleans.
He washes my car every sat morning before I go to the shop.
He does the dishes if there is one in the sink.
He cuts the grass.
He does laundry. Of course at times I have grey underwear.
He does the bed sheets every Sun morning.
My windows are spotless. You can eat off my garage floor.
He ocasionally cooks. And he grocery shops once a week.
I do the major shopping.
Tell your husband to get off his butt.
My daughters friends used to call him Mr. Clean.
He would do a foot check before they came in the house.
I do most of the cooking.
If my truck needs maintenance. I take his and he fixes it. Unless it is a warranty thing.
Of course he drives me crazy at times. I feel like i shouldn't be dirtying a dish.
But I am not going to complain . I have more time to workout.
Let him read this one.

Heather,

I like to be the handy woman. Sometimes I just tell DH to let me do it or I don't tell him at all and just do it. I put my DD crib together when I was pregnant with her. I love putting things together and fixing stuff. I usually just insist!

Yes, there are times when I feel that way too! BF and I both work full time outside of our house now, but he used to have a job where he had a "home office" and still, the little things did not get done in his travels during the day...in fact, he made *more* messes instead of fixing things or cleaning up. Sometimes, he would surprise me and do stuff around the house but more often than not, it was either the same or worse when I got home!

BF was also deployed with the military for 1/5 years and during that time, of course, I had to do everything. I pride myself on some of the things that I have acclmpoished but sometimes, I'd rather not say that I did them and have him do them for me ;)

Wallpapered, painted, sanded and everything else that goes w/that job;
Mowed lawn, cut bushes, planted, raked & all that goes w/that one;
Washed cars;
Installed air conditioners;
Shoveled snow (2 feet and then another 2 feet one week later :eek: );
Fixed toilets, leaks, etc.

RE: feel like changing my name to

Amyg- My water heater went and I had water all over the garage. I emptied it,unhooked it, took it off the platform and did clean up. That night it was an "emergency" situation, so he went to home depot and bought/replaced it. The good thing about that one is that he knows how to solder.:)

Lori- Every weekend I am at Home Depot buying the vertical blinds for one window in the house. He wants to do them one at a time. I have no idea why. The upstairs is done. When I get home, he installs the rails and I hang them.
:)

Wendy- I don't think he has the lazy gene, but he is definitely laid back. I know he works a lot but come on, you can do something while your home.:) His whole focus when he gets home is: shower, computer chair and one of his Star Trek dvd's playing. He does get up to go pee.:)

Anne- I would love a husband like that......up until the point where it gets too extreme. ie: that doesn't go there, that is crooked, this goes right here,not here. :) I have never met a man that does the cleaning himself.

Charlotte- I can definitely see you telling your man you are doing it.:) I did tell my husband that I would go ahead and do all these things, but he told me to wait and we could do it when he was off. I don't work, so I have nothing but time. I just got tired of waiting.

Christine- I have never lived where it snows so I have no idea what shoveling that is like. The A/C unit. What do you do, just plug it in after you drag it in place?

BTW_ I replaced both of my power steering hoses this morning. Then I had to scrub the driveway w/ concrete cleaner/degreaser to get the stains off.:-(
