Faith meets JK Rowling

My 13 year old daughter had the opportunity of a lifetime this past Tuesday. She attended a reading and Q&A with JK Rowling at the historic Wintergarden Theatre in Toronto, 3rd row seats no less!! She cried when Ms. Rowling came on stage and was thrilled to the high heavens when she said she liked Faith's hair. The questions were pre picked so she didn't get to ask whatever became of Dudley. Ms. Rowling talked about the birth of the idea of Quiddich and how she wanted it to reflect women's ability to multi task, the seed of the idea came after a 'run in' with an old boyfriend. She also said that she knew the ending of the book when she started. She told the audience that after Ron became an Auror he moonlighted in George's joke shop because 'Ron needed the money and George needed the companionship. I've also included a picture of my 16 year old Marley dressed up as Bellatrix Lestrange on the eve of the release of 'The Deathly Hallows'.

Sooooooo cool!!! I'm insanely jealous! I would LOVE to meet JK Rowling. Heck, just be in the same room with her. Maybe some of her creativity would rub off on me... (long shot, I know!) ;)

What part of Deathly Hallows did JKR read - do you know?

Congrats to Faith! Sounds like fun.

Oh to be 13 again--no wait, don't want that.

Emily, she read the part where Ron comes back to Harry and Hermoine. I'm way behind the times. I'm now just reading The Order of the Phoenix although I know most of how the series ends. Doesn't matter, her writing is brilliant. JKR was also asked which character was the hardest to kill off, she couldn't pick one, said they were all difficult to let go.

Faith's signed copy is now her most prized possession:)

I would have LOVED to have been there!! She did a reading in Carnegie Hall but tickets were impossible to get. I would have cried just like your daughter!! WOW a signed copy !!And to see her answer questions? Did she say anything about the future?

Aw, that is so awesome! Lucky girl. I never got into the books, but love all the movies. Isn't the latest rumor, Disaldorf or whatever that wizards name is, is gay? As a young wizard he fell in love with an older one or something? How great is that?:7

Thanks for the recap, Laurie! This is a memory she'll cherish forever, no doubt! I'll bet her sisters were jealous :)

Chocolate IS the answer, regardless of the question.

Hey Ellen :) Faith just told me that Ms. Rowling said that an encyclopedia of 'Potterisms' (my word:)) is in the works. I'm taking so darned long to read the series and have often wished for a reference of terms so it can't come soon enough for me. Thank goodness I have 2 total Harry Potter nerds in my house and can call on them for quick clarification.

Laurie:)

That is so cool! We are big Harry Potter fans around here....how great that your daughter had this opportunity!

Laurie, the look of excitement on your DD's face is priceless!! She's absolutely adorable!

I just recently started reading the books and I'm so glad I did. I was looking for something fun and entertaining and HP fits the bill perfectly. I finished the 3rd book, Prisoner of Azkaban, last week and I'm getting ready to start the next one. :)

Laurie,
Wow! What an incredible opportunity that was. And how cool that JK commented on Faith's hair!!

I have not followed the series beyond book one, but I admire Rowling for what she has done for a new generation of readers. I think it's fabulous.

SO happy Faith won those tickets! She looks adorable - like she's ridin' on air.
