Extensor Hallucis Longus pain

Hey
Just wondering if anyone around here has had any history, success etc. with treating this muscle? It's a small but when it shows up one nuisance of a painful muscle. I like to do long walks, but this has been putting my stride to rest now.
The only thing I have found that helps short term is my own trigger point pressure (and wearing a looser shoe. On the top of my foot, I loosen the strings). I had electro-acupuncture on it a couple of times, but it seems to just aggravate the nerve discomfort down the foot then. I am very frustrated. I seem to have managed other types of chronic pain daily, but this pain is proving not to be all that livable lately. Maybe it's tendonitis?

Elsie,Gotta admit I didn't remember this one from anatomy, but I'm assuming it's on the top of the foot? Any foot pain is miserable!! Hope it improves!! Physical ailments that keep you from w/o's are annoying...the mental issues are bad enough!!!

And there you have it!!
LMAO!
You guys crack me up. :) Laughter will always be my favourite medicine!!

Tom, yeah, it is just under the shin and goes down to the top of the foot by the ankle. You are so right about the mental blocks!
I found a decent stretch for the small muscle on youtube this morning that my Dr. hasn't shown me. I have relief so far. Yay!!

Thanks Justine, Karen & Tom. :)

You might not realize if you have a broken bone if you have never broken one before; stress fractures present one way, long bones, another. If you have numerous symptoms that are characteristic of a break, one type, another, or both, you should proceed with those diagnostic paths and treatment. Nothing to fool with.

Hmmm, Lisa & Linda, I haven't even considered that. I didn't even realize that it could be a thing. I very much appreciate your bringing it up. Linda, I haven't broken anything before so yeah you're right, I would not know what it may feel like. There does seem to be a lot of info online about it. I'll play a bit of 'internet dr.' investigating before making a appointment. lol. (Not to complain about it as I understand Americans have to pay for it out of their own pockets per use rather than in tax, although here in Canada, you really have to be your own strong advocate to try to get a xray ordered.)
Not trying to be a downer. Hopefully this is not the case. I think your plan to see a podiatrist is a good one. Hope you feel better soon.
You are most certainly NEVER a downer! :) Your insight is helpful to me.
