Exercised in a BARN on vacation!!!

Hi gals! Just got back from sunny Florida! I just had to share my workout experience w/ya as I know only you crazy Cathe fools could understand.

I was so bummed to think I wasn't going to be able to work out hardly over vacation. We stayed w/my grandma who has a teeny house, w/my hubby and my 2 sons.

Well... long story short my cousin built a barn/shop thing. It had a tv/dvd/stereo setup and doors! I worked out 5 out of 9 days (pretty good for vacation don't ya think??) My family thought I had lost it. My uncle kept poppin' his head in just to get a peak at me jumpin' around. They all kept just havin' to get somehting out of the shop at 6:00 a.m. - yeah right ;-) hee hee

Anyway, I thought of you fellow Cathe friends during my 5:00/6:00 am barn workouts. I knew you would all stoop to the same location as I for a Cathe adreneline rush. I took a couple hi/lo tapes from her and Christi Taylor. I also got to go the gym 2 days. A local gym there let me pay them $7 to workout so I at least got a couple wt workouts in. I also used some wood blocks he had laying around as wts for a couple circuit sessions.

Have I seriously lost it? Wood blks for weights? Pls tell me ONE of you would have done this!?

p.s. even though I ate like a PIG :7 :p on vacation I didn't gain a pound! I actually think I lost a little fat???? How could this be?? I had restricted my calories quite a bit before I left. I wonder if maybe the extra calories and cardio w/o helped get me out of this plateau??? Maybe it was the barn ambience?? hee hee

Love ya!

Good for you!!! Actually, I CAN relate. I went to visit my parents at the beach this weekend and I did Leaner Legs in their yard while my boys napped. I had recorded the workout onto an audio cassette moons ago. I just used my walkman and a cooler full of beer for my step. Yes, eveyone thought I was a loon...but I had a blast and got a GREAT workout.

Ha! LOVED the cooler of beer for your step! No one can say we aren't committed, eh!

Good for you Fitnut! Yes, I would have used whatever was lying around to get a workout in. Welcome home!

I feel you. I am going on vacation in 2 weeks to Drummond Island in Michigan. We have a cabin up there and go ATVin, swimming, fishing, etc. Anyway, I have already informed and instructed the Hubby that I am taking my Cathe stuff with me. Weights, DVD's, High Step and Step...now if that is not dedication WHAT IS!!!!!

I LOVE this story! And I probably would have done the same (although the people coming in to get stuff would have probably hacked me off a bit :)).

I typically get very, very edgy when I know I will be somewhere without access to a gym and/or my exercise videos and equipment. I've had family members complain about the fact that I wanted to workout while visiting. I guess it is not important to them and so they just can't understand why I would want to exercise when I could be sitting around eating/drinking with them. So I would just be irritated the whole time I was on "vacation" because I didn't want to upset them by working out. About a year ago, I just got over it and decided that I really don't care what they think or want. I will workout if I like and it's not some kind of personal attack on them. Just out of curiousity...does anyone else get this kind of grief from their friends/family?

Anyway, recently I was in a small town that didn't have a gym and I didn't have a VCR/DVD player either. So, I'm in the tiny hotel room doing kicking/punching drills, tricep dips on the chair, walking lunges around the room, jumping jacks, crunches, etc. I was eyeing the shower-curtain hanger thingy for pullups but figured I'd probably end up crashing into the bathtub somehow.

Hmmm...maybe I should start a little documetary book about the weirdest places to workout! A BARN would probably be one of them! Good for you!

Sure!! We exercised in Barbados on our 20th Anniversary (second honeymoon) trip a few years ago! Ran and used the Gym. ESPECIALLY when you're having a bit of rich food and champagne ---it clears out the system.

Good for YOU!!! :D

Good for you, but I don't know how you managed it! I am always so swamped on vacation that I never do my regular workouts at all. If it's a camping and hiking vacation to the mountains I don't worry about it because I'm hauling a big pack and walking about 7-11 miles per day, whatever kills the kids first!

But when we go back to London, like this coming August, there are so many people to see and places to go (shopping!) that I never have time to fit it all in.. If I'm lucky I might get in some power walks in the evenings. But, I prefer to embrace the vacation time to do things differently and try not to worry about my thighs and heart rate for two weeks! After all, after a day's sight seeing with the kids in London, or partying with hoardes of relatives, what I can motivate myself to do is usually get a glass of wine and chill out somewhere to mentally refocus for the next day's onslaught of activities and more relatives...

So I don't think I will ever get the chance to work out in a barn! Good for you though, that's dedication! I think the only pounds
I will lose on this vacation will be many pounds sterling.......
