Ever try a front body/back body split?

Hi educated exercise peeps..

I'm looking at switching up my one bodypart/day routine for something different and was thinking of doing a front body/back body split for at least a couple of weeks.

Day one:
Chest
Front Delts
biceps
Quads

Day 2 : Cardio only ( maybe some core)

Day 3:
Back
Tris
Hamstrings
Rear Delts

Day 4: Cardio only

Day 5:
Side delts
glutes/side of legs, calves
abs

Day 6: Cardio

Day 7 rest

Anybody every train this way? If so, did you like? Not sure I've got the bodyparts/day worked out to be the most efficient in the split.
Also, I would go heavy for each body part.

If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them!!!

Thanks in advance, Lynn

Not sure why it wouldn't work. Reminds me of Jillian's older workout DVD's (front and back) that she had - one set was more advanced than the other. Never did them, though.

Hi Lynn,

Meso 1 of STS is a front/back upper body split (CSB; BT). I think it works great. Your plan looks like a good one. There's only one way to find out! Do it, and let us all know how it goes :D.

Cheers,
Sandra

Lynn,

My only thought would be to switch bi's and tri's. Gibbee is right that this is very similar to some Gillian's. She had the bi's with the back because the bi's are supporting muscles when working the back. The same with working tri's with chest. When you do chest work, the triceps are the supporting muscles. I think it is a good way to break up workouts and change up your routine.

I was going to post the same as the others, I used to do the Jillian workouts from her book, Win to Lose or something like that, it was a very good routine and she used the front/back split, 4 days of weights in a circuit with bursts of cardio, and then 1 day of 1 hour steady state, and 2 days off, actually, thinking back, I dropped a size on this routine, which is really tough for me to do. Hmmm, maybe I should revisit it after I try out Insanity for a couple of months.

I would definitely give it a shot, good luck!

The only problem I have with this is that the opposing muscles are worked. So if you are working your biceps, your triceps are contracting eccentrically, and then concentrically when you release the bicep move. Same with any of the muscles.

When I have done Cathe's work-outs that are set up this way, I always put legs between the upper body to give the upper body rest.
