Essential Fatty Acid supplements?

Hi ladies!

You guys help so much with my worries - that I'll ask another question that I'm wondering about! :p

I've read how they are starting to realize how beneficial it is to have a good amount of the good omega fats while pregnant. In my local heathfood store, I found a dietary supplement called "Prenatal Omega Mom". It says it's 'The First EFA Product Specifically designed for prenatal woman'. Although it says it a lot of the Essential Fatty Acids, the nutrient label does not break it down into the ones I know, such as Omega-3, etc.

It has:
Tribasic Calcium Phosphate 600 mg
DHA (from fish oil concentrate) 400 mg
Linoleic Acid (from borage seed oil) 130 mg
EPA (from fish oil concentrate) 100 mg
GLA (from borage seed oil) 80 mg
Oleic Acid (from borage seed oil). 56 mg

It also said it provides a small amount (24 mg together) of ginger root extract and pepperment oil to help aid digestion.

Does anyone happen to know any info about this? Anyone out there taking EFA supplements?

My next doc appointment is on the 20th, so I figured I'd bring the bottle with me and ask, but I was wondering if anyone here knew anything about it.

THANK YOU!! :7

I've heard the same thing about EFAs. I took a fish oil supplement after my first trimester (too yucky when I was feeling nauseous). I just made sure it was distilled so there was no concern about mercury (if it weren't for mercury, I just would have eaten fish). But I would show it to your dr before you take it, because yours has different kinds of stuff in it and you want to be 100% sure it's safe. I think the EFAs really make their difference later in pg when brain development is going on so I wouldn't worry about going another ten days without it.

I take an omega 3 supplement. I am nursing, so the DHA, in particular, is especially important for brain development. I have read that there are not many foods that are good sources of it, especially since I eat a vegetarian diet. Some fish are a good source, as you already know. I also took it during pregnancy.
