Essential Core exercises for 2022?

Hey everyone!

I'm thinking about fitness goals for 2022 and am thinking of getting more focused on Core for the 1st quarter ... I typically do a Cathe core "Add-on" 2-3x/week just cuz it's easy to add it to the workout. But I'm thinking I might try to be more focused on essential core exercises for at least one-day/week. In your opinion, what are the essential core exercises you try to incorporate into your weekly routine? I'm thinking planks, side planks, supermans, bird-dogs, maybe bicycles ... what other ideas do you have?

Hi Debinmi, for me the best core exercises are Pilates focused. All the exercises you mention are found in Pilates. Others are the Pilates hundred, scissor kick, single leg stretch, double leg stretch, leg circles, russian twist, pendulum (aka windscreen wiper), and reverse crunches. There are also exercises you can do incorporating the foam roller to add an extra core challenge. One I like to do is the dead bug where you lie on the foam roller so it is vertically along your spine and start by raising one leg off at a time then try to raise one leg and the opposite arm at the same time. The longer foam roller is best for this but you can use a shorter one and use a yoga block to support your head. The stability ball is also a good prop for core exercises.

Thanks Hazlady! Great suggestions! I'm putting together a list & will pick'n choose each day I do a "non-Cathe" core. Love the idea of using the foam roller as I've been trying to use it more often now.
