Elderly people robbed

I just need to vent and cry...

My mission group through church is involved in community outreach. We do all kinds of work for people who are unable financially and/or physically. On the schedule for May 31st we have an older lady and her husband that need kitchen cabinets painted, windows painted and yard work (raking, mowing and trees trimmed). I called her this afternoon to schedule a time to meet with her to see exactly what needs to be done and so I would know how many people to schedule.

She told me that a man came to their house this afternoon to see if he could mow their lawn...the grass is quite high because they are unable to mow due to his heart problems and her double knee replacement surgery. The old man told this guy to wait on the porch and he would get his wife, who was in the bathroom. This thug followed him in the house anyway and the old man said, what are you doing? The thug said, oh, I'm just looking at your pictures. The next thing they know, the thug is gone and the old man's wallet is missing. He had $50.00 in his wallet along with his license and pictures of the great-grandkids. The cops can't do anything because they didn't actually see him take it.

Then this dear woman asked me how much it would cost for our group to work at her house and if she could feed us. It's our mission to do this!!! No $ nor food is involved! They just relax and know what needs to be done for them is getting done! What a kind soul!

I have been crying for the past hour. How can somebody do this? Is he spending the money and thinking about where he got it? I don't wish the thug ill harm, but I hope he gets a reality check and feels really bad about what he did to those people.

Thanks for listening! I am going stir crazy...got to go for a walk...

Oh, Steph, I'm so sorry. It's so awful when you work so hard to help others and then one person can ruin everything and cause so much pain. I'm just glad no one was hurt and no real harm was done. The older couple will be fine. Emotionally, it will take them time to heal from this awful betrayal, but they'll be ok. They'll be comforted knowing there are people out there like you who are there to feel their pain and help them.

Don't be so hard on yourself. It's ok. If it makes any difference, I feel better knowing there are people in the world like you. :)

Allison, thanks so much for your kind words! There is a lesson in this, I know. It just pains me that someone can do this to anyone let alone the elderly. I will post pictures next Saturday of the event and the couple. It will be a wonderful joyous occasion!

Again, thanks for being there for me!
