Earbuds/headphones for workouts? What kind do you use?

Do you use earbuds while working out, running or while on the stationary bike? How do you keep them in your ears? I just got my mp3 player to work but am so distracted by the earbuds slipping out of my ears while running on the treadmill or walking.

What should I try?

I may not be of any help to you but...I have a set of Sony wireless headphones and they are the traditional big headphones and they have very cushioned ear pieces. I was afraid that as big as they are, they would slip off all the time while running on the treadmill but surprisingly they don't. I wear the headband around the back of my head, instead of across the top.

Anyway, they are big, not teeny tiny like the earbuds, but they do stay on and they are comfortable to wear.

Also, my kids like the Sony Sport headphones for use in the car. Get those pretty much anyplace like Best Buy. They are designed to go around the back of your head and they fit over your ear with a hook type piece. The sound on those is fantastic too, but again, they are not teeny tiny like the ear buds but are much smaller than my wireless set I use with the T.V.

While I run on the treadmill, I use headphones from Sony that have individual ear pieces that wrap around the ear. I bought them at Circuit City and $20 for them. I've never had any problems with them falling off. I also bought an extension for them because my treadmill sits a little ways back from the TV. I got tired of turning the TV up really loud so I could hear it over my treadmill.

Jeanette,
I have the same problem with the buds that came with my mp3, and while it was cold outside, I simply wore a head/ear band to keep my ear's warm, or tight hat and either of these kept the earbuds in very nicely. However, now that the weather is too warm for this I'm going to invest in a different style of headphones. There are several models for under $10 that I've seen at Walmart or on Amazon that should work just fine.

I had the same problems - and like 40something I use the sony headphones. They are an in-between size, they stay on and sound good.

I bought the ones that wrap around the ears but they still popped out sometimes. My ears are very small. Here is what I do...I always workout with my hair pulled back in a ponytail. I thread the plastic part that wraps around my ears through my pulled back hair before tucking the plastic part behind my ear...make sense? Makes it impossible to flop out!

I've got the same problem. The earbuds stink, I agree. I tried this pair that kinda "hangs" from your ears, but they start to hurt the top of my ears 20 min into my run. I'm willing to try anything at this point. Another thing is I sweat ALOT, so I'd need a sports style pair that could stand up to my sweating. Could anybody give me the model of that Sony pair you're talking about?? I'd love to start listening to audiobooks while I run... but need to get the earphone situation ironed out. Thanks!

I use the Sony Sport Lightweight headphones - you can find them anywhere. I usually get mine at Walmart for about $10. They are the kind that go behind your head and have little plastic ear pieces. I don't have a model number.

The only problem I have with them is that they tend to fail rather quickly for me. I run with them and the plastic covering the wires tends to bend and crack and the wires come out and then there's no connection anymore. I've tried duct tape to strengthen the plastic, but it doesn't help much.
