Dunkin Donuts smoothies

So the NEW tropical fruit smoothie sounded really good and I went online to see how many calories it would be if I bought one at 3 grams of fat as I thought "Cool...low fat". A small serving is 16oz and it is 360 calories...but it has 71 grams of sugar. That's just ridiculous. Is it necessary to add all that sugar??? Guess I won't be having one of those.

Oh, that stinks. I am looking for a great smoothie!!

Someone over at Body For Life rec. Jamba Juice.. Have anyone tried this? The closest place I can buy is 45 mins away in Philadelphia :(

I savor a good jamba juice whenever I am in the vicinity of Bryant Park in NYC. They can run high in calories too so check the nutrition information (which is provided in brochures in the store). I envy anyone who has one in their neck of the woods.

When I visit my friend out in Cali.............Jamba Juice all the way! I know they are loaded in sugar, but they taste so good!

What a nice treat!

What about moderation, girl? If you want to try this smoothie then go for it! Having one once in a while is not going to ruin everything you've worked so hard to acheive! Treat yourself. You deserve it!:9

71 grams of sugar! Yowza! But I'd have a hard time believing that Dunkin' Donuts would actually sell anything healthy.

Moderation is one thing but I think I could eat a candy bar and a bowl of icecream and consume less sugar than that. Too much sugar makes me sick. That's A LOT of sugar and totally unnecessary in my opinion.

You could probably find some tasty and nutritious ones at some health-food stores, natural food markets(is Trader Joe's that type of store? We don't have any TJ around here, so I'm unfamiliar with it)., etc. But they are not as accessible as stores in the mall.

One suggestion (maybe boring!): buy some Vega smoothie infustions individual servings packs, get a bottle of juice, add the infusion and shake. Makes a healthy smoothie (but is not the same experience as buying a pre-made one).

Their advertising does make their smoothies sound good (both tasty and nutritious):
"Filled with real fruit, low-fat yogurt, calcium and vitamin C"

Sounds like a nutritional powerhouse!

But with all those carbs, only 1 gram of fiber? The 'real fruit' content must be very small. Especially compared to the plain-old sugar content('sugar' is mentioned 4 times on the ingredient list).

Propylene glycol: isn't that what's in antifreeze? Or is it windshield washer fluid?

It's used in both, Kathryn. It's also the main ingredient in a very effective topical solution used to treat a certain bacterial infection of the skin that occurs in horses called scratches...YUMMY :p !

The scary thing is that many people will think that just because it has "real fruit" and it's called "smoothie" it's healthy. Like granola bars, you know? Nothing but sugar. As Kathryn said it is hard to believe anything healthy except water and of course COFFEE (love it :)) coming from DD!

But remember, not just 'has' real fruit, is 'FILLED' with real fruit...

Evidently, the PR folks at DD have a different concept of what "filled" means than I do! (Maybe they are using it in the same way modern bakeries do when talking about 'filled' pastries. Not as in 'chock full of' but as 'there's a trace of it somewhere in the middle'. ;-) )
