Doubling up

I have a lot of extra time because I am a stay at home mom. I have chosen Mon-Wed and Fridays as my weight days. Sometimes I will do my tape in the morning and then later on that night I feel like doing it again. Is it okay to double up on the same day as long as I keep the rest day in between?

Do you mean you repeat the same weight workout twice in a day? If so...I'd say not a good idea even with a rest day in between. If you want to double, cardio might be a better option than the same weight workout...just my 2 cents....:)...Carole

I have only repeated the same workout twice in the same day for 2 days. Okay, is doubling up on weight work too much no matter what tape I do for both sessions? Are you saying just to do a weight tape and then cardio?

I have done this before, and didn't have any problem with it... I usually done extra leg exercises at night for about 40 minutes...
That was last yr....... Rhonda

I think Carole is suggesting to not do weights twice in one day at all...that if you'd like to work out again come the evening, to do cardio instead...:)

Ofcourse, if you want, you can do an upper body only work out in the a.m. and then a lower body only work out in the p.m. (or vice versa) this way you are not touching each muscle twice in the same day but rather doing one group thoroughly in the morning and one in the evening...a perfect way to do this would be to use pub/plb and do the full work outs-one in the morning and one later in the day. HTH. :)

The exact same workout? It doesn't make any sense. I think that if you feel like doing it a second time the same day, you probably didn't do it right the first time. You probably need to go heavier on your weights or use better form.

If you want to work out a second time in a day, then I suggest what Wendy said. Do a different weight workout for a different muscle group, or do cardio.

I don't think its for everyone... but I did it with freestyle last yr...because I was working with lower weights.... I didn't ask anyone I just did it... Rhonda:7

I often work out twice a day. Usually it's some form of cardio before work, then weights after work. I've found it very effective & I definitely like splitting the cardio & weights--for some reason it makes it a little less tortuous. :p

I do double work outs, too. Not all of the time, but I never work the same body part. If I do weights, then later I'll do my cardio. Or if i have done legs in the AM, I'll do upper body in the PM. Sometimes it helps with little ones to break it up. I can only get up so early these long summer days.

Like most everyone, I don't do the SAME workout twice in one day. That'd put me at risk for overuse injuries. If I want to work out twice, I'd do cardio in the morning and weight work (or core work) in the afternoon, or lower body in the morning and upper body in the afternoon. Never the same body part twice on the same day. Also, I don't double up on my workouts all the time. That is very stressful on the body, even if I double up only three days a week. The fatigue eventually catches up. When it does, I get diminishing returns from my workouts. There are only certain times of the year when I do this, and even then, I don't stretch the doubling-up period further than three weeks.

Three days a week I wo twice a day. Those days I do cardio in the AM, weight work in the PM followed by a short cardio segment. It's not easy getting thru it but I feel amazing when I'm done. The cardio makes me bounce right back. Kali
