Even though we won't be getting married until next year(and that's not definite), I have these overwhelmening urges to go out and buying something wedding related. Shoes, jewelry, a purse, I just want something in my closet that symbolizes that I will be marrying the sweetest man in the world next year(hopefully)or the year after that :). Yesterday, I almost bought a dress! Does anyone have any suggestions before I go and do something crazy, like rent a hall!?

Have FUN!! Planning my wedding was the most fun I ever had. Every little purchase made me giddy. There's no harm in buying smaller items way in advance like beautiful lingerie, hoisery, garter, guestbook, picture frame, photo album etc., I bought that stuff way in advance and loved looking at them from time to time. You can have a ton of fun purchasing Bridal magazines (I was addicted). Also fun; looking a bridal sights online, planning details about your big day in your head or on paper, creating your own little planning notebook and adding clippings or ideas to it as they come into your head. "Window Shopping" and trying on gowns is fun too. You don't have to spend to have a ball. Get one of your girlfriends or go alone. I had fun trying on all sorts of dresses and headpieces too even the ones I knew I had no intention on buying. Enjoy this time, because the acutal day, whenever it finally arrives, only lasts an instant.

I eloped! Seriously, we were planning a church wedding. I was so nervous about the whole thing--the stress was incredible, especially since the wedding was to be in Pittsburgh and we live in Washington. One morning, we decided to elope, went and got our marriage license/rings, and had a lawyer marry us. Nothing more romantic! I've never regretted it (13 years later!!!). Keep in mind that I've never dreamed of a big wedding, so it was easy for me to elope. Congrats and best wishes.

I can relate, I got married in June of '97 and I was so excited just looking at Brides Magazine. (Poor hubby - I was constantly shoving articles from the magazine in his nose "Look at THIS!") I did all the small purchases over a period of 1 1/2 yrs. So go for it - but nothing that will need to fit 1-2 years down the road! Besides, how many times are you going to change your mind? What I did to ease the need to buy a dress RIGHT NOW was pull all of my favorite pictures from the bridal magazines, put them in those clear sleeves and collected them all in binders. (I had one binder for wedding gowns, one for Bridesmaid dresses!) And I still have them today - any time I want to see the "runners-up" I can look at them, and it brings back the excitement of that time. I'm going on and on, but I want you to know you aren't alone - How can we help but be ecstatic to have found HIM? I still fight the urge to stop in to Bridal shops, just to look around! I loved being a bride-to-be. So Enjoy!
