Does anyone else....

Oh, people, people, please!!! This was meant to be a little nostalgic thread about how great it was to be young and never think about the food that we put in our mouths, just to eat it and enjoy it. I didn't mean for it to turn into some kind of third world war over disordered eating and the insanity of low carb diets!

Sheesh!

Oh, I enjoy every minute of what I put in my mouth. I don't feel like I am suffering at all. I think I would gag if I ate too much sugar. No disorders here. Just perfectly happy without the crap. And I have no desire to go back to icky greasy fries and the likes thereof. I am free at last...thank God!

I'm with you! Some of what I used to eat, I don't even consider as "food" anymore (some candy is just a mix of sugar, artificial color, artificial flavors, chemicals...what's "food-like" about that?)

But when I think back to the days when I could polish of a whole bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos by myself (during a case of the munchies--but bags were smaller back in those days!), and ate pretty much any old thing that was sugary or salty (makes for a nice "yin/yang" balance, don't you think?), and drank enough Pepsi to float a battleship, I do kind of miss the ability to do that without working out and not gaining weight from it.

For me, my saving grace was the activity level and hormones and metabolism of someone in their late teens/early twenties.

If I did that now, I'd be up about 2 pounds a week, and look like crap! (and feel even worse, I'm sure).

If the "me" from back then saw what the "me" of today eats, she'd be as appalled as I am looking back at her. I mean, DARK bread? NO sugar? No boxes and bags of candy? What a drag! LOL!

I'm with Charlotte: I don't even like most "not-good-for-me" stuff anymore. Doesn't even tempt me, so I don't feel deprived or suffering. (But I'm no food nazi: notice I said "most," and I'm very careful with my use of language most times!)

Kathryn,

However, I do suffer a bit when I pass the Gibbles cheese curls down the grocery aisle. I check the fat content and say, "no, better not" in my head and carry on.

Sometimes, even in health food stores and coops, I'll find a "natural" food that looks good, until I see the fat content and lack of fiber!

I don't even think they HAD nutrition labeling on foods back in the 70's, did they? If it existed, I sure didn't look at it!!
