Do you steam or iron your clothes?

BAM

Cathlete
I'd like the quickest way to have my clothes look decent enough so that people don't think I slept in them. I do NOT like ironing and figure the clothes look 50% worse once you get in the car and put on your seat belt so I want the easiest way to get the job done. I got a Sunbeam Steam Valet 5 years ago and just started using it. It's o.k. I've eyed the Tobi for awhile but that's around $130+. What have you found to be the most effective and most efficient way of ironing your clothes? (Outside of a butler, I mean a buff butler, I mean one that works out to Cathe in your house with his shirt off. Man, has this post taken a turn. }( :p )

Yeah, we use the dryer, too. I've tried steamers with no luck. x( And if I know something needs ironed after I wash it, I'll throw it in the dryer for a bit until wrinkles come out and then lay it flat to dry for blouses or knit tops and hang them for dress pants.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. It's just that yours is stupid.

Is Miss DebbiePants being a wisenheimer!?!? OMG, I can't believe it!:p

I generally do neither. I like the dryer source the best but sometimes when you didn't pull the clothes out quick enough or the material is obstinate or you threw a bunch of clothes in a pile instead of hanging them up.........then the steam or iron must be utilized. I've definitely loosened up having everything creased and ironed perfectly. In my 20's, it was sooooooo different, along with hair, make-up and wardrobe. Now my favorite line is "who cares?" I'm having a bad hair day......"who cares?" I don't feel like putting on make-up......."who cares?" I'm wearing the same thing I wore a couple of days ago......"who cares?" I haven't showered for a few days........"who", well, yeah, I could name a few that would care. :p

I'm glad to know that ironing has become archaic. Guess I'll be "who cares" ing a lot more. :7

>>Good for you, Bam. To me, ironing is that thing my Mom used to do in the sixties. :p :+

My mother used to dampen shirts, blouses, etc., roll them up, put them in the refrigerator and then iron them later on. YIKES! That's one thing I won't be doing...along with washing men's hankies! Yuck, yuck, yuck and quadruple yuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bam

I know. My mom used to iron the hankies. Of course, once she started working for pay, all that went right out the window! :D

NEITHER for me too!! I usually have to have my pants hemmed when I get a new pair, and the tailor somehow puts this beautiful crease in them that lasts for ever and ever. All for $8!! So no matter how many times I wash and dry my pants, they still have this wonderful crease -- no iron required!:D

Iron? Iron? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... nope, don't know it. Oh, oh... wait a minute!!! Is that the thing in my closet that looks a bit like a little boat? I've often wondered what the heck that thing is.:p

I don't even have an iron. I gave it to my mom when hers died. If it doesn't de-wrinkle in the dryer, I don't wear it.

O.K., you guys have me a bit perplexed. What about clothes that you have folded in drawers that have the fold line in them or seasonal clothes that are put away or not taken out of the drawers for months that have wrinkles? Is there a secret to this that I've been missing all these years? Please fill me in! I's gotst to know!!! :7

Bam

I don't do either. (Unless "steaming" involves hanging it up in the bathroom while I take a hot shower.) Like some others here, the dryer is my preferred method of wrinkle-removal.

If a shirt or skirt needs to be pressed, I usually have it dry-cleaned; but that is very rare.

I hang everything on hangers except for workout clothes and pajamas. So there goes the "fold line" problem. Also, seasonal clothes get washed and then, yes, you got it, dried in the dryer at the start of the next season. I refuse to iron. I swear, each time you iron it takes 10 years off your life. I'd rather do ANYTHING else than iron.

My mom on the other hand, she irons her pajamas. And washcloths. Anything that woman can get her hands on, she'll iron. Maniac, I tell ya. She's an ironing maniac.

Allison,

My grandmother LOVED to iron, and she was so good at it. She'd do it while watching "her story," As the World Turns!

I'm with you, life's too short to iron, and I'm really not very good at it.

I guess I'm the exception here as I do iron to make clothes crisper looking. I'm not a fanatic though--I don't iron jeans! I figure I have enough wrinkles on my face--I don't need more in my clothing :)! Would that I could iron my face, or throw it in the dryer...
