Do I need new shoes?

Ok, for the last month or so when I workout my arches in my feet hurt afterwards. For example, I have a hard time walking the next day until I sit down and massage them for 5 min or so. I'm thinking that the tennis shoes that I have aren't supporting my arches as well as other shoes may. I've had them for a while too though, like around 6 months. Maybe I need to get a new pair? If so do Rykas support your arches better? Right now I'm using Reebok, because I got a really good deal on them.
I know there have been a lot of questions on Rykas lately, so I'm sorry if I'm asking a very repetative question. But I'm tired of having sore feet that I never used to have before. Help!
Thanks!

Kathy:

I think you need new shoes, you sense that yourself.

get some tosuit your main activity. I use the Ryka Cirrus, since my main activities are step, kickbox, hi/lo, weight training. it suuits me just fine for all these activities. I have a separate shoe for walking and running. So, shop according to your main activities.

I also had problems with under my feet, with fallen arches. I thought for a while it might be plantar fascitis, and indeed yours might be, especialy since stretching and massage relieves it for you. What I did was take out the inner liner of the Ryka shoe and I bought a sorbothane shock absorber and arch support. These cost me 3o dollars, a lot I know, but they made all the difference and all the pain went. The only time the pain comes back is about once a year, and when it oes, it is a sign to me to get new shoes. Listen to your feet. They are very intelligent!

I was told by my sports specialist shop where I get my Rykas that the sorbothane inners do not wear out, only the Ryka shoes do, the shock absorption goes. And I have found this to be true also. The sorbothane liners are now intotheir 3rd year and going strong. So, for me, the 30 bucks was well spent.

I am not prepared to buy cheap and cut corners where my feet are concerned. It can make all the diference between injury and being injury-free to continue my workouts.

Hi, Kathy:

In my case, my fallen arches caused my plantar fasciitis, so if new shoes don't solve your problem to your satisfaction I would get checked for PF. I ended up with orthotics that support the arch and so far I'm pain free but I haven't been given the go-ahead on tougher workouts yet. Please listen to Clare about how smart your feet are. They're trying to communicate with you now!

Wow, thanks! I had no idea that I could have falen arches or Plantar fiscitis. Kind of scary to think about. I will go get new shoes, maybe this weekend, and look into those inserts that Clare was talking about.
Ah! I'm falling apart, first it's carpal tunnel, then this. What's the deal? Ha, ha!
Thank you for your info Ann and Clare.
