Do I have to get a pull up bar?

Paula,

P90X has a lot of pull ups in it and they use the band with the door attatchment as an alternative move to the pull up. I don't know what options Cathe will give but that's one for you if you don't want a pull up bar. :)

I can't attach anything (even temporarily) to the door so hope there are options using just dumbbells or body weight.

The door attatchment used with the bands/tubing doesn't actually ATTACH to the door and won't leave any marks or holes or anything. It's just something that attaches to your tubing and then you just place it at the top of the door way and close the door on it. It keeps the tubing in place for the exercises. You can also put it lower to do different exercises if you wanted but for a sub for pull ups, you want it up high.

HTH.:)

Do you have a pic of this? It is hard for me to visualize how it doesn't really attach but is still strong enough to do an exercise. You must still have your feet on the ground.

Thanks Michele!:)

Yes Marie, your feet are still firmly planted on the ground. You are basically doing lat pull-downs w/the band in place of the pull up. It's honestly not as effective as a pull up but is an acceptable substitute as far as the folks at Beach Body are concerned. HTH! :)
