We just got some disturbing information in the mail about our new neighbor. We just found out our neighbor is a convicted sex offender, he served 15 years in prison for raping a 13, and 15 year old girl. As a mother of six with one of them being a little girl (17 months) how to do deal and handle this news. I'm a bit confuse and disturb that his wife came over around Christmas time and ask our twin boys if they would take care of there dogs while they where on vaction. Why would you come ask our children when you know your husband is a sex offendar. Very scary and creepy.

Denial. I have two extended family members who are aware grandpa and uncle have fondled younger family members and completely deny it...for the sake of keeping the family together. It's awful.
I'm a very nice person in general(or try to be), but if you come after any of my children I turn into the most vicious person on the planet!

I'm glad you found out! Keep a close eye on you boys and girls. Boys are targets too. :(

so scary

Yep, its like she said, its denial. People never want to believe the truth about their spouses, family members, and friends. I learned about this in college in my psychology courses. People want to believe that this monstrosity doesn't exist, but of course it really does. I would not allow your kids out of your sight. Frankly, I would look into moving.

I was lucky. When I was 5 or 6 years old, the little girl who I played with (she lived across the street.), was kidnapped and murdered in the park behind our house.:(:( The guy confessed. But, man, by the grace of G-d go I, it was only by chance that he picked her and not me.

I had a similar situation happen to me. After thinking it over, my husband and I confronted the individual over the phone and very firmly let them know what we knew and that we expected them to keep their distance from our family. We then instructed our children in an appropriate manner. Moving would be nice, but any sex offender search online will show you that they are everywhere.

I agree with nkhansen1, I would very firmly and politely express that our families will, of necessity, have no interaction whatsoever. And if this is ever violated you will be forced to get a restraining order, since she has initiated contact with you.

This may seem a bit over the top, but desperate times call for desperate measures and you are protecting your children.

Good that you found out and you asked advice on how to deal with it. I agree with others about setting strong boundaries and making your family aware.
I believe there is a website that anyone can go to that allows you to find offenders in your area, my old neighbor did that cause he was worried about his wife/kids.
