Dirty Dancing Millenium Style

My 17 year old Elizabeth and friends took Friday night off of work to go to a school dance, something they haven't done in about a year and a half. These Girls are doing well at school (80%+), participate in theatre and music, work hard and I was really happy to see them going out for some fun at school. Just after 10:00 I was surprised to hear the key in the door and the Girls coming home early. They left out of pure disgust, there are chaparones at the dance but they stay in the school foyer while the kids are in the gym. A tight circle forms in the middle, not for dancing but for 'grinding and dry humping'. I'm sorry for the coarsness of that but that's how they described it. I'm waiting for a school administrator to call me back because I do not want to tacitly approve of what they call 'a dance'. It bothers me that this is allowed and get this, it's a Catholic School! The lunatics are most certainly running the asylum..........Sexual activity (as I remember it;-) )is progressive, if we wanted to get past second base at a school dance we darn well had to leave and go to the back seat of a car!!! I can't believe that this is tolerated by 'chaparones' which is defined as one who 'guides and protects'. I am pi$$ed at the teachers for being too timid or whatever to get in there, break up the circle some and tell those kids to 'make some room for the Holy Spirit' as we were told to do at school dances. I talked to some of her other friends over the weekend and they are frustrated that the school has a breathaliser at the front door but puts up with the skankiness that passes for dancing. It took 50 years but it seems that all of the hedonistic behaviours they were afraid would happen with Elvis grinding his pelvis has come to pass. My 11 year old was going to dances for 10-15 year olds a while back but this was going on at these supervised dances as well and I won't permit her to go any longer, I know some of it is learned through media and videos but why are 'figures of authority' turning a blind eye??.............I feel so frustrated, I had a lot of fun going to dances when I was growing up and am sad that my Girls are being denied the pleasure because chaparones can't use their common sense as to what is and isn't dancing UGH!!!!!.......end of rant, I feel a little better now, has anyone else had to deal with this?

That is really unfortunate!! You would think school officials would have better sense!! And what were the chaperones doing in the foyer! They are suppose to be chaperoning. My son went to his 8th grade dance last weekend, and luckily it was very well supervised. The vice principal was in charge and she doesn't put up with anything. No big groups forming, no cell phones allowed (out). She even reviewed the music with the DJ to make sure there were no explicit language. I hope your principal gets back with you.
