Dinnerware Set

For my bridal shower, I was excited to get married my present husband and I made the mistake of asking for only lingerie. So, I have way too many. Only 1 person bought me a salad bowl and I love it.

So I have nothing nice for the house. I would love a nice dinnerware set, serving bowls or dishes. I love cooking but my dishes are not that nice.

Do you know a brand that is affordable and nice. I would like a complete set. Since I waited that long. I want a matching set of dishes, matching butter plate, matching salad bowl, etc

Does it exist. Would I get a bundle price?

Any suggestions?

I have a nice cutlery set my mom got me at my shower. But everything else for serving i can use.

thx

I've never been one for fine china. I just don't see the point unless you have enough room and want to host lots of dinner parties maybe. That being said, my mom purchased my regular every day plates (Corel) for me when I got married. I didn't even register for anything "nicer" cause my house is tiny-no dining room and small EIK-so there was no point. That being said, when we do eventually move into a bigger house where we can fit a full size dining room table I plan to buy a full set of Pfaltzgraph dishes. They come in lots of pretty designs and are a fraction of the cost of china. In other words...You won't cry if you accidentally break a piece. :)

I have a set of china and a regular plain white dinnerware set I got from Kohls for $39 for a box that serves 6 (bought 2 sets). Honestly, I almost never use the china, and love the versatility of white dishes. The white accents the food, and you can use any placemat/tablecloth, runners etc.. with it and come up with an entirely different look. If one breaks I do not cry (my china is now discontinued!). So honestly, I'd recommend you look for some attractive white dishes that seem somewhat plain... then invest in table linens! :) Now that, can be a lot of fun and you can really go to town with it. LOL

Specific brands, I can't help you. It has been too long. My Kohls cheapies work fine and don't look cheap. I loved that it came with serving dishes and bowls as well (dinner plate, salad plate, cups and saucers, soup bowls, serving bowl, platter, sugar bowl.) If I were ready to buy again (and it will be coming in the nexr year or two) I probably would buy a bit nicer set but the same white type. I had no idea I'd love the versatility of simple. ;)

um keep in mind I've been on my own for 22 years... and used to be a dinnerware fiend. Yes, I have several casual decorated sets too... but most of them have been garage saled.

I have fine china (setting for 18) and all the stuff that goes with it. I have been married for almost 19 years and back then that is what you did - register for fine china. I use it maybe once a year.

Then I had phaltzgraff for years that had cutesy patterns on it.

Recently I bought all white from Kohls and will never go to anything else. Honestly you could throw hamburger helper on this stuff and it looks gourmet or bistro. I wait for it to go on sale and then I usually have another coupon and get a pretty decent price. It is all by FoodNetwork. My plates are round but they also make a square and I think an asian influenced one.

thx ladies

I totally agree. And white is what I was looking for. However, I need something like a nice shape or a tiny pattern. Not completely plain. I have to admit, I love the very square plates.

thank you

I have a set of Potterybarn dishes, and the whole thing cost about $400, I think. This includes gravy boat, serving tray...ALL of it. Everything is on sale right now with retailers, so you can get some really good deals. I love my dishes, they are beautiful and really take a beating!

Someone else recommended Pfaltzgraph, and they are also great. One other to check would be Mikasa. They have china, which is pricey, but also a day to day line which is more affordable.

I have two sets of Pfaltzgraff and love them. They have some all white dinnerware sets that are really nice. ( The "Filigree" pattern is a classic and is really pretty, plus extremely durable). This is good quality stoneware that will last forever. Be sure that you also get the stoneware cleaner, it is not expensive, and I go over my plates about once every month or so to remove any scratches.
Their website seems to have alot of sales and the shipping is very fast.

JMO...

I love my Fiesta ware. They come in all solid colors although I have mine in white for the same reasons as above. You can purchase it from Macy's and other sites.

All of my stoneware is from Crate and Barrel and it's all white. They have several styles and you can get them as sets or as open stock. I find their stuff to be affordable, attractive, durable and very flexible (you can set the table as elegant or casual, depending on your table accessories and how you dress it up). They're also nice because the seasonal pieces can always complement the other stuff you get. I've been shopping there for 15 years and everything still matches. They have a great registry, too.
