Digital Cable vs. Satelite?

Hi all! I'm in the process of thinking of switching from digital cable to satelite. My cable company has finally gotten me really upset. But I'm not sure if it's a better thing to have digital or not. From the sounds of it I will get free installation, for up to 4 rooms, and it will be $10.00 less than I'm paying a month for digital cable. But I've heard that during bad weather you may lose your picture, and that during the winter you will have to go scrape snow off of the dish from time to time. Is this a highly annoying problem for those of you that have it? Are there any setbacks that anyone can think of to satelite? I will get the local channels for free, so that isn't a problem. I just need to know everything before I do something drastic and then regret it, ya know.
Thank you for your help.

I guess there are pros and cons to each, but I really like satelite better. When we had cable our reception was terrible. The cable company dug up our backyard to put a new cable in and it wasn't any better. We immediately got Direct TV. It is cheaper and we got more channels for the price. Yes, when their is a heavy rain cloud you will lose your satellite. It has been raining here all week. Honestly, I lost about 20min. of satellite for the whole week. Not that bad. It has been raining here all day and I haven't lost the satellite. Only when there are really heavy black clouds do I lose mine. As far as snow goes, it wasn't that bad. I guess it depends on how much snow you get. Our dish is low enough to just go and brush it off. My husband takes care of that. Hope this helps in your decision.

Hi Kathy,

I agree with everything that Fab40 said. We have DirectTV and really like it. We only lose reception when the clouds are really heavy or there's a bad thunderstorm. But I think the packages are a good value, and I have had no problems with service.

Sorry I can't comment on the snow issue, because I live in New Orleans and it has not snowed in recent memory.

Good luck....Sandra
