difference in cardio

I've been trying to incorporate more running for my cardio when the weather was getting nicer, but now it's too hot (for me).
I know there are a lot of runners here, so I'm wondering, in your opinion, what makes running different than doing a Cathe cadio workout (or using an elliptical)?

Running is just another way to crosstrain. It is a great workout and it will work your muscles differently than step and the elliptical. It is considered a steady state cardio activity, unless you do hills or interval training. It is also a great calorie burner.

Do I think that you have to run to get in shape? Or, do I think that you have to run also along with step and the elliptical? No, you can get in great shape with Cathe alone.

I think I like running just to add variety to my workouts. If it is too hot, you could just do short runs (30 minutes or less) or run early in the morning or later in the evening. Hope this helps:)

I won't run in the heat when it gets as bad as it has been the past few days. Take the workout inside if you can. The weather will break soon and we can all return outside. I just don't think it is worth the risk! The evenings aren't much help around here, it is still 88 degrees at 8 p.m. Mornings are the best bet, but even those have been pretty tough.

With all our wonderful technology, hop on a machine or do Cathe. If you do head out to run, carry water in your hand and be cautious of signs of heat exhaustion. Runners World is focusing on it this month. Watch for dizziness, sudden fatigue, chills, achey muscles, disoriented. Again, WATER WATER and ELECTROLYTES to replace the sodium, potassium and magnesium lost in your sweat.
