Hi all, just a quick thanks to all of you kettlebell fans here, after reading some threads, I bought Art of Strength Providence, and the 8kg KB. GREAT workout! Lots of fun, time just flew by. I was not able to do that windmill exercise, I subbed a 10lb DB for that one.

Other than windmills I got through the entire DVD, and even kept up for the most part. I definitely need at least one more heavier KB for the leg work.

Thanks again! I have learned of so many great new workouts reading these boards. You guys are great. :D

Glad you enjoyed it! Aren't kettlebells fun?! Those windmills are tough; I had to use a dumbbell for awhile until I built up the strength to use my 15# KB.

Not to further enable you or anything, but if you like Providence, you should try AOS Newport next! ;)

Newport is next on the list! I am hoping performbetter.com has another sale. I want another kettlebell too, and I liked the one I got on their site.

KB's are my favorite thing to do right now...I adore these workouts! I am actually pacing myself so I don't get burned out! Its such a different approach to total fitness, I feel so powerful and strong when I do these..and worked out like never before. Welcome to the wonderful world of kettlebells!

PS..I have to admit I hate the Turkish getups though. Blech.

Hi !:)
I just got my first KB over the weekend and my first workout arrived in yesterday's mail . (the kettlebell way)
I'm so excited about getting started but I am wondering how to best fit it in with my other workouts.
Yesterday I did CTX upperbody and abs.....so should I wait a couple days before trying a KB workout ?
Should I choose only lowerbody KB exercises and add them on to a leg workout ?
Also, I had bought a 10# KB and from reading everything I've seen on Cathe's site I decided that was too light and went back and got a 20# in it's place (couldn't find an 18# anywhere !) ......this seems very heavy to start with . Is it a good idea to start with a dumbbell and progress to my KB as I feel comfortable with the moves ?
Any other tips or hints I need to get started ??
Thanks !
Becky

Dela I also use a 10 # db for those Windmills

I'm so glad you are enjoying the kettlebell.

Been a month since I started with the kbell and I do Kettlebell work averaging 3 days per week. I have The Kettlebell Way & Lauren Brook's kettlebell dvd - if you don't have that one yet - its a great one too. I give it 2 thumbs up.

I ended up ordering a 12kg bell for swings and other moves I feel I can comfortably and safely do with the heavier one.

Its fun isn't it?

I have AOS Newport coming to me as it shipped yesterday so I'm looking forward to that one.

Tneah TGU's I struggle with and also using a 10 db doing that move oy!

Dela ~ I'm so glad you are lovin' kettlebells. They are so much fun and you get a great overall cardio and strength workout. I can swing a 35# and sometimes a 44# kb but when doing the overhead movements like windmills I usually drop to a 18# or 25# kb. I learned Turkish get ups by using a dumbbell.

Becky ~ You should be able to use a heavier bell for swings. I started with a 25#. For overhead moves like the Turkish get up and windmills using a dumbbell or lighter bell is fine. I usually sandwich my kettlebell workouts between cardio workouts and usually do a traditional weight workout with a rest in between my kettlebell workouts. If that makes sense. The only other hint I can give you is that form is key. So make sure you have that down.

Have fun!

Welcome to kettlebell land, Dela!

Someone once described kettlebells as a "Goldilocks" workout : one bell can be too heavy for some moves (like TGU's and windmills), too light for others (like deadlifts and swings), but just right for others!

I recommend just using a dumbell for those moves where you can't yet use the weight kettlebell you have (unless you want to buy a lighter KB to have around).

Oh Boy! You enablers are something else. I will be looking at kettleballs and workouts thanks to you. I mean that in a good way.
