Did I REALLY need my oil tank filled yesterday?

I'm pretty sure the answer is no. So I got hit w/another $400 bill from Petro yesterday, & I'm not sure why they filled the tank all the way.

I'm kind of new to this oil heat thing--will letting that oil sit all summer be bad for the oil, the tank or the system? If no I'll suck it up & pay the bill. If yes, is there any way to get them to take some out?

I don't think it's a problem -- we have it year round in two tanks...... the bill's are a bummer!

That's pretty much standard operating procedure for heating oil companies. It's not a problem for your tank for the oil to sit there. You might want to call your oil company to ask them if they plan to make any deliveries before next November--just to make sure you don't get any more surprise bills.

Actually another thought just occurred to me: some folks top off their oil tank in the summer when the heating oil prices are usually (but not always!) lowest. You might keep that in mind too. HTH!

I hear you. Last time we had our propane tank filled it was over $800! Paid for courtesy of some of our tax return. Less money for fun stuff this year.

Huh. That's interesting. It is about $50 less than last time, so I guess I won't worry too much about it.

Yep. And that was with our locked in price. The tank had gotten lower than usual, and they felt the need to put in the max they could.

They always do this at this time of year. I told them not to fill it unless I call. That just works better for us this year because we used our wood stoves for the first time this winter.
