Hi ladies..

Wow! Yet another month getting started! Ok, today is cardio and my schedule has Maximum Intensity Cardio. I plan to do the entire workout instead of the hi/lo and then the quick fix cardio. It is easier just to do the whole workout..I am feeling some DOMS in my chest and back from yesterday. NOt too intense yet...

Ok, be back later to chat...

Happy December!

I'm thinking on day 2 of recovery week, I'm going to go for a run! What's got me more excited about it is, I got my new subscription yesterday to Runners World Magazine. (got it for Zach's magazine drive). I'm reading it and wanting to get out to run STAT!

Kathy: ALL of MIS? I do remember you not really liking the step, maybe it will be better today for you?? Hope so!!

Beth: That is horribly sad about the SUV crash there. I swear, you just never know, so love what you got! Right? No Cyber deals for me yesterday either. And I did try. I found something for ME, and then felt guilty, since I JUST bought something for ME (workout dvds!!!).

Hottie: You got in some good cardio yesterday! LOL @ Evee and the weighted vest! If your back is sore, I would just go VERY light on the back exercises, or maybe switch up the back work for later in the week.

*WAVES* to Joanne !!!

Hey Chris enjoy that run....And you are right. I am not crazy about the step portion of that workout. But, I try not to let my not liking it stop me from doing it. I know that it is a good cardio workout..Thanks..

Hey guys! It is so hard to believe it's a new month, and perhaps even harder to believe it's the last month of the year!!!

Chris, wow.... running in 28 degrees?! How was it? How do you dress for that? I always see cold weather gear for sale this time of year and I just don't pay much attention..... can't imagine being so cold and yet sweating. Cool that the magazine has you psyched!

Well Kathy, how was it? I've decided life is too short for workouts I'm not that fond of, and I should look forward to whatever I'm going to do..... I'm not sure that's a great philosophy, but in that vein..... last night I was previewing 4DS HIS to reacquaint myself with those steps and see what weights I needed. Ug..... I just couldn't get excited about doing it! So, I did Jillian's NMTZ instead. Amazing how much 5 pounds can fry those arms! Tomorrow I'm going to do a barre workout and hopefully run in the afternoon. I don't know if I'll ever be able to follow a rotation again! I don't feel too badly about it, because I know I'm still getting good workouts in. I'll be curious to see Cathe's Dec. rotation.

I'm supposed to take the Dryer's bus up to Union Square in SF with some other moms today, but I completely forgot that the bus doesn't get back before pickup (doh!) and Larry has a dentist appt. at that time, so I'm bailing. I think I may be getting sick as well, so I'll just sit at my desk at work instead...... woe is me. :D Chris, part of my trying to ignore the cyber deals was driven by guilt as well.

Waves to Hottie and Joanne..... Joanne, we're waiting for that water park report! :)

Hi all!! I missed chatting with all my buddies!

Waterpark was very fun! I was thinking we'd have the place to ourselves - no, total opposite. The place was packed. It was funny. Have you ever seen Summer Rental with John Candy? The scene where they are at the kitchen table and all the tourists with their towels, bags, coolers, etc., are traipsing past their kitchen window. Well, when we opened our hotel door it was like that. But, it wasn't really too bad cause the place is huge. There are three separate indoor water parks and and indoor play place that the kids loved. The kids are at a good age where we can find a spot and let them go off on their own. Well, the boys, not Caitlyn. Jameson and Ian went right off to all the big slides - Colin was afraid to go down them at first. Much to my surprise, Caitlyn wanted to go down them. I think it was more of "wow, I can do something Colin is afraid of and rub it in his face" ;). And, she did! Finally, the afternoon before the last day, Colin decided he would try everything. Then he didn't want to leave - he loved it. He was having fun before, but not going on any of the faster, twistier slides. Me, I preferred the hot tub. Part of it was indoor and part outdoors. Which was nice cause I always get way too hot and have to get out. But, if you went outside where it was about 40 degrees, it was perfect. The only not so good part was the T'day dinner. If I would have thought about it, I should have known. It was a buffet. Which I knew, but it wasn't even real turkey - it was turkey loaf, basically. Just processed turkey. Ick. And, everything else tasted processed. So, I promised everyone I would make a turkey dinner when we got home with all the trimmings. So, we did that Saturday and are still eating turkey sandwiches! It all came out really good, though.

Chris and Beth, looks like I have to order Lalofit2! I missed the sale :(.

Chris, so sad about that patient. You're right, we are all really lucky and should appreciate everyone and everything we have. That run sounds awesome. I actually like running when it's cold. I don't do well with the heat.

Beth, it's fun to just do what you want for workouts. No pressure or dread!

Kathy, you're a brave woman for doing MIC!!

I've sort of stuck with the rotation I was doing, but obviously missed a few days. Oh Beth, I meant to tell you I did Mindy's Bosu workout. OMG, I thought I was going to die! Man, that was tough!! I think I subbed that for Legs and Glutes. I did Turbo Kick (sprinkler one ;) yesterday and KCM's Muscle Definition in place of Power Hour today.

Now on to not so good stuff...my dad is really not doing well. Now he's septic. He was really out of it yesterday. He's in ICU. I'm really not sure if he's going to make it or not. Chris, this is a really sensitive question, so if you dont' feel comfortable answering it, just ignore this. But, do doctors and nurses generally tell the family if they feel the patient is not going to make it? Or, do they try to keep them optimistic until it's really dire?? His blood pressure dropped really low and his WBC are high - that's how they figured he's septic. There's other stuff going on, too. He's on medication to keep his blood pressure up, but he has refused any other interventions, like rescucitation or a breathing tube if needed. The poor man has just suffered so much, I can certainly understand, but it's tough. He may still pull through this, but then they still have to deal with his bleeding, which is still going on.

Have to run....BBL...

Joanne

Joanne, so sorry to hear about your dad -- that's got to be stressful for everyone. Hugs to you. I'm guessing that hospitals/doctors are honest with patients in vastly different ways depending on the hospital and doctor involved -- not that that helps you at all......

Sounds like you had a really nice time except for the processed turkey!! Nice that you were able to have your own tgiving dinner at home and now have the leftovers! I really thought we'd have our own, but Larry said he didn't really want it and I know the kids aren't pining for it....

Yes, you'll have to order Lalo 2 so that we can have a foursome! :D

Good for you for doing the bosu workout -- was it worse than insanity? I know it was really hard for me! I had great hrm numbers. I've been thinking that I need to pull that one out again, but I'm also keen on running since I finally had a good run.

Hey Again!

Had a good cardio day... it was still a little chilly this morning, so I did a quickie SJP Premix: All Step (26 minutes). I think I may love this music best of all, so much fun! Great little step sweat. And after a little break, I suited up and went to the park for a 35 minute run! It's been a while since I ran. My legs felt heavy, not sure why. It wasn't one of my best, but it did feel good. I barely eeked out the 35 minutes, I wanted to stop ealier, but kept pushing! It still felt good being outside. The weather was cool, but the sun was shining brightly and felt SOOOO warm and good. I think I may like this cooler weather to run in, too, Joanne!

As far as what I run in for clothes. Well, if I was a 20-something old college student (like the ones around here), they are ALWAYS in shorts, doesn't matter, they can wear winter hats and gloves, but ALWAYS shorts. Esp. those hot-blooded boys! Today I wore my running pants, a full bra top (goes down to my waist), a short-sleeved T-shirt over that, and then a hoodie. I wore gloves too, but always feel like taking them off about mid way through, which I did.

Beth: You are so right about not doing a workout you don't really enjoy! That is so simple, yet so true! That is what I like about the STS rotation, adding in your own cardio. I love all the weight work, and then get to add in whatever cardio I feel like for the day. Sometimes I do need to be pushed beyond my comfort zone though, and I find that happens when I follow Cathe's suggestion for cardio. I wanted to do Jillian this week or maybe even Lalo!! Can you do them without weights? Does Jillian use weights, even?

Joanne: Your mini vacation sounded like a blast! I'm so surprised there were so many people there too! weird! The water stuff sounds lke a BLAST! I know my boys would LOVE something like that. The hot tub sounds even nicer! What rotation are you doing again? I forget!... Ooooh gosh. Sorry to hear about your dad being so sick. Makes my heart hurt for you! I don't mind answering your question at all. Being a nurse, I find that the nurses are more honest with how dire someone's condition can be. Doctors sometimes sugar coat it. But definitely get to know and talk to the nurses. The only way they WOULDN'T be so truthful, is if the family is highly emotional about it. We've had families threaten us or yell at us if we try to tell them how their loved one is REALLY doing. ... Your dad will be in our nightly prayers, Joanne! People do recover from being septic. Though I'm not sure how sick he is, and if he may get so sick that being on a ventilator might be necessary . How old is your dad again? I bet your mom is a mess too. Do you have siblings that live close? I forget and I don 'tremember you mentioning anyone ..

okay, gotta run for now...

boys' doc appts in 20 minutes!

My my, time is slipping from me today. I woke up in the middle of the night just feeling awful. Overheating and sweating even outside of the bed. This went on for almost an hour or two and a good part was stuck on the toilet groaning (sorry if TMI). Even Evee was pissed I woke her up but Joe slept right through. I went back to bed and decided to try and sleep instead of starting my day and then I had a weird dream. I dreamt that this really nice Christian girl I knew in college divorced her husband because she came out as a lesbian and then ... get this... I dreamt that I dragged Beth into watching some stupid Anime show with me and she was every growingly hating me for it. There were other parts of the dream that were weird...like I was in this complex in a college campus from when I went to math nerd camp when I was 12...just a weird dream. But I was literally tingling when I woke up...soo tired. But I did get up though slowly and did Disc 28. I'm going to have to invest in slanted risers the next time I do this. I don't know what it is about the hardwood floor but it slips and it was terrifying to have 55lbs over my chest and slip on the step by myself at home. But back is definitely stronger and doesn't hurt. Forearms are stronger too. Didn't get any cardio in today though I'd like to take a walk at one point. I have no idea what I'm going to do tomorrow...whether its STS Legs or something else as I have to get everything done and showered by 8:45a and considering I've been only waking up at 8a lately...not sure that's going to happen...

Joanne -- I'm so sorry about your dad. I'll be thinking of you even more than usual. I really hope he pulls through. I'm glad though you had fun at the water park. certainly more exciting than what I did (clock about 30 hrs with Joe in a very good video game and gorging on very bad food).

Chris -- I can't convince Joe to wear pants when he runs. He looks silly...he gets these huge socks that go up to his knees and he finds these shorts and that's how he goes in desert cold (when I got out to drop him off in the morning it had risen to the warm temperature of 42 degrees). When he finds pants that are "thin" and "light" enough they are clearly made for people who are approximately 5 inches taller than he is. So shorts for him. hey what is the protocol for wearing a sports bra in public? I wear a sports bra for cardio workouts at home but no where else. Do i have to just be thin, cute, blonde, and pretty to get away with it? Just curious...

Beth -- awww, I love 4DS HIS. Actually, it doesn't get my heart rate up as high anymore. I want a shock cardio rotation because I'm going to finish STS in two more weeks, have an active recovery week, and then its the end of the month...I don't want to wait until january! I only got the one thing yesterday and some DVDs for my friends up in SF. I still have about two more friends to buy stuff for (not including Joe's friends) and family. It's weird...I still LOOK for things for my parents even though I haven't gotten them anything at Xmas in almost two years. They have everything and my mother doesn't want more "junk" in the house. So, I started buying gourmet food for them...really good sugar free chocolate for my mother (she's diabetic) and I found out that my father was getting fat off it. Last occasion, i got them an edible arrangement which is mostly fruit which seemed to work pretty well except that I know my parents refrigerator is full too...dammnit. Why can't they just play video games like my nieces?

Kathy -- I don't have MIC. do you know a good sub for it when I catch up this week?

Lab lab lab lab .. blah blah blah...

Thanks for everyone's kind thoughts about my dad. I'm leaving work a few hours early in a few minutes to go to the hospital..I'll let you all know how he's doing.

Chris, I definitely feel like we get more/better information from the nurses. They are really wonderful. Some of the doctors are, too, but not all. I could have hugged the one who was there yesterday. My dad has a very long and confusing health history. Most doctors who have seen him (and there have been many) don't seem to have even looked at his charts. They ask us all the same questions over and over. I know they need to get a history, but a little preparation ahead of time would help. This doctor came in and recited everything that had gone on with my dad and said "I know you are tired of answering all the same questions over and over!" Well, yes, we are! He took the time to read his charts. I'm thinking it's not too good if he doesn't make a turn for the better in the next couple days. He's on some major antibiotics and you would think he should start to show some improvements soon. My dad is 74. My mom is OK - but I think it's starting to sink in that he's really sick. I mean she knows that, but he's always rebounded, but we're not so sure this time. She got me crying on the phone this morning talking about how her and my dad have been talking about old time. No, no siblings. Just me! They had me and figured that was plenty! That run sounds good. I could never run in shorts in winter. I did get some pants that are supposed to be good for running in cold weather - can't remember the material they are made from, but I'll have to try them out one of these days. I'm doing the July 09 Butts and Guts rotation.

Beth, I'd have to say the bosu workout was darn close to Insanity. I didn't even finish it all cause I ran out of time.

((Hottie))) - your morning sounds horrible. Are you OK now? Sounds like some entertaining dreams, though. ;) I had to laugh thinking of Joe in his knee high socks! You're not married to a much older man, are you??? JK! My protocal for wearing a sports bra in public is no, not happening ever here! Unless some miracle occurs and I all of a sudden sprout a six-pack. ;) And lose the rolls. So, my protocol is only if covered up by a t-shirt!

I'm having a hard time thinking of Christmas gifts for the boys. Too old for toys - not really into many video games anymore. Thinking about a bike for Ian, don't know about Jameson. Colin wants a Nintendo DSi. Debating on that one cause he "lost" the one he got for his b'day a couple years ago within a month or two. It's vanished from our house. Caitlyn is easy - I think I mentioned her list before!!

Gotta run....

Joanne

Chris, NMTZ calls for light weights -- she uses 3 pounds, but I use 5. I don't know that I'd bother doing it with no weights, but if you went light it might be ok for your recovery week? You might be able to do lalo without weights, right? There's a lot of shoulder work, as I mentioned, but it's with compound moves..... I love lalo for his balance work, which would work fine without weights.

Sounds like you had a good workout this morning -- maybe your legs were heavy from the step beforehand? You've done that sort of thing before though, haven't you? Do your lungs hurt from the cold air?

Hottie, that dream is pretty funny! You should definitely get the slanted risers, but in the meantime, do you have a yoga mat? Put your risers on that -- what you're doing sounds really dangerous! Remember, it was a heavy chest press (don't remember if it was incline or not) that got me injured!!

Joanne, I owe you a beer!

I'm with Joanne.... no sports bra out in public for me..... but we are much older than you! And we don't live in Southern California! ;)

Speaking of SoCA.... did you see the announcement about the San Diego road trip? March 26-28 I think it said..... no details beyond that yet.

Where is the announcement for the earlier RT in SD?!??! I need to schedule these things out people!

Ok, just making sure I wasn't the only person too shy to go in a sports bra in public. Maybe I'll reconsider when the fabled six pack (jeez, all I want is a two pack) ever comes to existence.

It's the damned incline. The chest press on flat bench is wonderful with the tower but the incline slips and man, like I said, it was scary. I'm smart enough to say screw the floor in a moment like that but still, way too scary.

That said I forgot to mention, we're in the middle of redoing the gym...sort of. We pulled out the elliptical and I got TONS more space. We moved out the old CRT and it's TV stand and put a new LCD TV on top of a horizontal filing cabinet. I'm hoping to move the desk in there tonight but very happy with the new space.

Keep us updated Joanne!

That RT announcement was well hidden.... you saw it, I take it?

And yes, I understand about the incline.... I felt so much better after getting the slanted risers, even on carpet!! But, you must promise me you will try a yoga mat or go with flat bench from now on! That's just too risky!
