what do you all think about the step ups we did?

I think my tush is getting rounder on the mid and topside..but the bottom of it looks the same as when we started this...
my next angle of attack will be the hamstrings, maybe that will do something for the underside definition.

I did terrible on the 16 glasses of water.....but i did well on pushups.....going to my kness for pushups really gave me a chance to get stronger.

so what do you ladies have to say for this last month of stepping up ?

Hi Ruth & Cinza!

I'll report in tomorrow (probably late since I have two classes) if that's okay!! We just walked in the door and it's going on midnight. But, just to let you know~I've stayed VERY consistent to our challenge. Kind of proud of myself!:7 I need to dig out my measurements and "see" if there were any changes. I know one thing-I think my endurance level is better after climbing that step a zillion times! :-wow! KILLER exercise! I've done real well with the push-up challenge also. Wanna go another month? This month flew by. "See" you tomorrow!

Debbie, I hope you find something interesting in the measurement department .. I lost my original measurements...but i know that spot under my tush is still there....
must be fat.
I am looking forward to both of you telling me something good has happened.

for me: I dont HATE pushups....i simply groan at the though but know i can manage and am getting stronger..
I think the pushups helped me in pilates.... usually i cant hold my head up in a particular position....and one day last week i did it with no trouble.

Debbie suggests another month..

anyone want to add something new?

i would be pleased to add deadlifts or some particular leg lift that happens behind the body... from hands and knees ..
something that will really target the backside without using quads...


I did my first Cathe tape this evening.
....PS legs..... nice tape. I was so intimidated by what i had read about her workouts that i waiting a month after getting the tape to do it!
But i did fine (my class really must be tough to get me in good enough shape that I didnt suffer... more weights next time)
I liked Cathe better than most of the other instructors on tape ...
No fake whooping and hollering.....
good honest work.
I especially liked that she stretched after each body part....I have read that is a very smart thing to do, not just for safety but for muscle development.
I love doing deadlifts and she does them...

Is her other leaner leg tape particularly different from this one?


I have new crush at the gym...
this fellow i saw alone in a room doing tai chi.....

i didnt think much about him at the time but i saw him again yesterday and asked him something about tai chi... when he smiled at me and spoke in and exotic accent i fell in love.......(i'm sooo easy)

I figure if i get enough crushes going i will be working out every day just to get a chance to say hi to the guys! And saying hi will get my heart rate up without treadmilling!
Good plan?
even if they never noticed me i would get plenty of benefit!

Hey Cinza - anything to get us to that class or workout tape! Having crushes is fun - it makes you feel more alive & puts a little spring in your step!
Well I know the stepups helped a lot. As I said earlier, I didn't know about the measurements so didn't do any befores, but I can certainly feel a difference. They still make me breathless though.
The pushups are another story! I still hate them. But, the handles make it seem a little easier & I can only assume I have improved with all this practice. They're still way hard though.
So the evil woman wants to add deadlifts eh? As a matter of fact that was going to be my next suggestion. I actually like doing them. And I think I'm doing them better since seeing Cathe's revised version in PS. I feel like my form is better. So - another month of stepups, pushups (what am I doing???) & deadlifts. Sounds good to me! Debbie? What do you think?
Cinza, I did your 25 but it almost killed me! Actually it made my elbow hurt so will do no more than 20 for now. But you have no elbow injury, do you? Hee hee!!

I've sort of joined your group with my Lower Body Solution program. Four days a week of those Step Ups! The first week I got sore, but not this week. I tack them onto BodyMax and Circuit Max, and sometimes add one-legged squats, too.

"If you have the choice to sit on the couch or do step-ups, do step-ups!" Then you can dance!
 
That's right!

I feel like DANCIN' when I FINISH all those step-ups!! Hey Girl, are you ever working hard on your lower body. Hey, guys, you should see this gal. At 51 and lookin' GOOD! Glad to have you join us HB!

I'll let you know the results. I feel a BIT tighter back there but still a waaaays to go! These challenges have helped tremendously to keep me committed. I've even tormented my students with extra push-ups so I don't have to come home and do them. LUCKY THEM!! Okay, I'll "see" you soon. I need to get downstairs and get started on my workout. It's feeling like an IMax day.

oh my goodness ...You know i do just as i am told.. just think how buff i will be. here goes...but i am going to cut out 9 because i have 9 Pilates pushups coming up in an hour as well as planks 30 seconds on front an back with left and right leg lifts..... try that!!
and i did about 24 pushups yesterday...
just think how great i am going to look!!

3 mintues later...

..... I just tried to do my pushups and hurt too much from my last two sculpting classes to do them!! I hate to admit it ... i need some down time!
But i will make them up cause no one tells me to do 30 without getting thier 30!!!

Do you have any suggestions?
(be careful now that you are with us, this crew can be dangerous to be invoved with! You wont know when you read your post that you are going to have to drop and give them what they ask for!!)

On the Deadlifts
....there are lots of versions of form : how high you lift the weight, where you start or finish...or how straight the legs are.
Form is tricky...... flat back..with a little upward tip on the rear end.... protecting lower back is everything.

i see cathe doesnt come up all the way...on the PS leg tape.
but some people come all the way up and give an extra squeeze to the glutes on the top... IF you do this be sure you are not swaying in the lower back....

i know that when i do a deadlift , i engage the glutes just before i start up and give them all i have all the way up and on top... if you do this with a mirror on your side you will see the shape you probably wished you always could see for your tush.....I think this form minimizes the hamstrings though... so i try different forms.

as for weights and reps..
maybe each to our own like we did with the stepup.
i havent found the weight that i can feel in my hamstrings...
I dont know why this is..... i have had people check my form and its good...
so i will pick a weight that tires my glutes in 12-15 reps ... and do 3 sets.....
I am afraid that by the time i can feel it in my hamstrings i will hurt my lower back with too much weight.
I will also do ankle weights for the hamstrings. I did a machine yesterday for them and with 25lb i felt something bad in my knee so i quit...

i did something in a class that i bet is good... a resistance band tied aroung the ankles and stepping: wide and almost together 1-2-3 to the right keeping the tension in the band even when legs are getting close .....left and right sides each (of course) -- i nearly died... x(
I hear this will work under the glutes...help hold stuff up.

Guess what i am thinking ladies?! Lets do it!

You'd like the Xercuff which you wear on your ankles. I use it when I do Standing Legs for the outer thigh work. You can do the side stepping stuff you were talking about.

I'm going to resist a push-up challenge and stick with the step-ups with my tough leg schedule. I must say that my stamina is better since I started this. I did Imax yesterday with a 6" step, and felt like I didn't work out hard at all! I think I'll go to an 8" step next time. It could be that I'm excited about a new routine, and that gives me motivation. Whatever works!!

Now I'm going to sit on the couch and not dance and not do step-ups. I did the step ups this morning with a Y Cybex leg machine workout after a 45 minute race walk in a mall in Butler, PA!

i love :) the xercuff!! i found one at my gym and came right to the forum to spread the news of how cool they are!!

every now and then i post some raving or other on the forum about resistance bands and tubes and cuffs... etc...

i am afraid i am in no way able to keep up with annette..

once i had large pecs and it looked like i had two sets of breasts... upper pecs, lower my own!!

that was in the good old days when i was young and made tons of muscle just doing normal everyday work!!

I used to come home from boarding school and ride my bike... in two days i would have newly defined thighs without even knowing i had done anything.....ohhhhhhhh.....now 5 months of sqats and they just feel hard but i cant see much!
