Hi Debbie,
When you say you are going out "on your own", what exactly does that mean? What will you be doing, & what does it involve? I know you will make a great success of whatever you do!
Just sign me,
Nosey Ruth :-rollen

Hey Nosey!!

Hee-Hee! I mean, Ruth!!;-) I don't mind you asking at all. Basically, I have worked for a specific company for years and now I am going to "do-my-own-thing"! In other words, instead of them supplying all the materials and routines for me, I will do my own. We used to go to workshops to receive and work on the routines. Now, I will make up my own. I am in the process of working on the logo, name of my company, the liability part (YUCK!!), registration forms and all that is required to run your own company. I know once I get past all the paper work, it will be easier. I think the hardest part is wanting my routines to be well received! I (& another instructor friend) am busy getting those together right now. Any ideas you want to share??? I teach my classes in a small community church fellowship hall. The people there treat me so nice, so they are very supportive about all this so nothing will change as far as where I teach. I am fairly confident my students (who are very close to me and wonderful people) will follow me. I will be making the announcement to them this week!!! Does that explain it any better? Thanks for asking, Ruth, and say a prayer for a very smooth transition!

Break a leg!

Ha, just kidding, that wouldn't be very conducive to successful teaching, would it. What you're doing takes a lot of guts and dreams, hope things go really well for you! What do you primarily teach? Just wanted to ask before I think about throwing some original material your way. Hope the paperwork and logistics nightmare is over before you know it, that's probably more tiring than working out! Looking forward to hearing how your classes like the new stuff!

Thanks so much!

Thanks, Brinley! I teach Hi/Lo aerobics, specifically choreographed to a certain song. We repeat the same routine for a time and then I switch and keep adding new ones. Sometimes, we go back and do old favorites! Any ideas you can share will be IMMENSELY appreciated. (Even just ideas for different combos!) Thanks so much for responding and I will keep you posted.

Don't thank me yet!

Ooops, I may have spoken too soon. I don't have a clue when it comes to hi/lo, I'm just a step junky through and through.

Still looking forward to hearing how it goes though ~ Please keep us posted :)!

RE: Don't thank me yet!

Hi Debbie,
I'm afraid that I am a step junky too...no experience with hi-lo at all (except falling on my face). I wish I could do it, but I've tried, & I can't!
However...I am so excited for you!! What pushed you into making this decision? Have you been considering it for awhile?
I'm sure there's a lot of hard work involved (notably paperwork), and some "butterflies". But at least you know the people who will be your students, and you know the hall you will be teaching in...I imagine that would help a lot?
Sure do wish I could contribute some ideas, but will have to make do with offering you my total encouragement & support. As I said before, there is no doubt in my mind that it will be a huge success.
[marquee]YOU GO GIRL!!!!! :-jumpy :-jumpy :-jumpy[/marquee]
Good luck!
N.R. ;-)

RE: Hey Nosey!!

Gee Debbie...you wouldn't like to move to upstate New York would you. We have such a dirth of instructors of any kind!...Anyway, I was going to ask the same question of you myself...so I am glad Ruth was the nosey one. I had my own business for three years...designed and making equestrian clothing for world-class riders...and also was a free-lance artist for a few of those years...and you will find that you will work much harder and longer hours for yourself but there is also a great sense of satisfaction of owning your own business as well. Grow slowly and carefully. You sound like you have good base of clients to start with and that is what is probably the most important thing. Don't forget the tax angle also...I am an accountant...there are lots and lots of ways to claim business expenses! I would find a good tax accountant to work with you. Don't want to give all of those hard-earned $ to Uncle Sam to fritter away on studying the aerobic capacity of red ants in South America!

Good luck lady.

Hi Ruth!

Thanks so much for all your encouragement and support. That means just as much! Yes, I have been considering this for quite a while now. Without getting into any details, things have changed dramatically the past year with our company since our old owners sold to new ones. "THINGS" just are not the same! YES, there's been lots of butterflies, but I am feeling much more confident and relaxed the past couple of days. I think (change that to: I KNOW) this is going to be a great decision on my part. Also, you are right about keeping the same location and the same students. That helps tremendously! They are all so wonderful. I have oodles of close friendships from my classes. Again, thank you for your nice words. IF you ever get to Akron/Canton, come join us for a class. We'll teach you to LOVE Hi/Lo!!!

Thanks lladehawk!

No, I don't plan on moving in the near future. I have a new grandbaby to see every chance I get!! Thanks for the tips. Yes, my students are my most important thing. If I was in this for the $$$ I would have quit YEARS ago! I love fitness and I LOVE sharing it with others. My classes are just as much a social gathering as a health issue. Not that my students don't take it serious, but they come to have fun too. Again, thanks for your tax tips. I defintely want to keep SOME of those sweat earned $$ to myself.;-)
