DDR for the Wii

Have you tried DDR for any other systems? We have playstation 2 DDR and the guy said it was the same as the one for the Wii.

DH has a PS2 that just collects dust since kids came along 6 years ago.
Do you really get a good sweat going w/ DDR?
I'd love to try it.

We have DDR for the PS2 and Gamecube, and absolutely love it. We've been doing it for 2.5 years now. DH uses it as his warmup for weights, and sometimes as his cardio.

We've played it for the Wii at our nephew's house. It is similar to the PS2 version, but you also use your hands holding the controller and nunchuk. (Although you can turn this off if you like and just do the feet.) It makes it more of a full-body workout, but it can be a bit confusing, especially when you're just getting started.

It's a lot of fun, but you may want to try it out at a friend's house if you can, just to see if you like it.

I usually just lurk, but had to comment on this! I'm in Europe and this was released here last Thursday. Both my DH and I absolutely love it!

I've owned a Bodybugg for the last couple of years. I've been amazed by my readouts when I do DDR. After the initial beginning routines and trying to get the hang of it, I've been doing mostly Basic (opining to my DH that I'll never be coordinated enough to move beyond).

One am I did FIRM Body Sculpt (only cardio is tall box climb & leg press). My highest calorie burn was 4/min. In the pm I did DDR and my highest calorie burn was 10/min. Overall, I burned 3x as many calories doing 45 minutes of DDR than doing my exercise routine.

Obviously, if I were doing a Cathe step tape or a 45 min run, the difference wouldn't be as drastic. All in all, not too shabby for a video game, though!

The higher the BPM of the song and difficulty, the better the cardio benefit. If you have two left feet like my DH, it's much harder to work up a sweat.

I have a Wii. Can someone please tell me what this game is? Also, I noticed they have a Wii Fit coming out in May. There's a foot platform to go along with it. Looks interesting.

It's called DDR Hottest Party. But I think it may be tricky to find.

ETA: I can't wait to see what the Wii fit is all about. Maybe a good gift for my DH for Father's Day...(or for me for Mother's Day...)

Gayle, you can also use your hands on the newer PS2 versions if you have an eyetoy camera. It's not quite the same; you reach up and hit targets that you see on the screen. I am not quite coordinated enough to do hands and feet at the same time, LOL. Luckily when you do the hands and feet version, the steps for your feet are much simpler.

Keep at it! You will be amazed how you can improve with practice. I was sure I'd never get any further, (sort of like some of the trickier Cathe choreo), but if you keep practicing eventually you will progress.

Thanks for the input, everyone! Unfortunately, I don't know anyone else with a Wii that I can go try it on. I've been reading some online game reviews and they're lukewarm at best. Maybe I'll wait a while.
