Darn Back!

Ugh! I've noticed some cramping lately in my mid back. I've stretched and kept working out strong. So today at work, I'm literally sitting at my desk and my left side of mid back tightened horribly and felt like a knife went through it! It hurts to take a deep breath and turn side to side. I did have it checked out, because of the breath thing, they checked for kidney stones and infection and have said it's muscular and could hurt more in day 2 or 3! UGH!!! Just as I was going at a great pace. I've hurt my lower back before, and had trouble walking and those spasms are a killer. I can walk okay, deep breaths and twisting hurt. She told me no high impact, but don't sit still either. Darn. Has anyone had this before? How long did it take you to heal. I've taken 600 mg of advil and it took the edge off. Can you believe it - I was just sitting there and pulled a muscle!!!!! I know, it was probably weak and picked that moment to go, but it just sounds so funny! I'm going to try and do light workouts here over the next few days to keep it loose and warm. Will have to see how my body responds.

Thanks for letting me vent!

I'm so sorry this happened to you! This happens to me a lot -- just sitting at my desk or walking through my house, and BAM -- pulled back muscle. Sometimes it fully heals in a day or two, sometimes a week or two. What has helped me the most (besides Advil) is rest (not bed rest but no workouts and generally easy movements, like walking), gentle stretches, and ice. My PT told me to do 30 minutes of ice, then 30 minutes off, then another 30 minutes on, and to repeat the cycle as needed throughout the day when it hurts. Doing the ice that way made a huge difference in how it felt for me.

I know for me, the biggest challenge is mental -- I always feel like such a slug when I can't work out, and I start feeling defeated by my own body. But try to stay positive -- be nice to your back now so you can back to your life as soon as possible.

SOrry cause I know that sucks. It happened to me when I was 9 months pregnant. Your uncomfortable enough at that point right? LOL!
It only lasted a few days, so I hope your recovery is quick!

Thanks so much for your kind words and advice! As much as it stinks, you have to learn to rest to get better. I, too, feel low when I can not work out. We'll see what advil and some rest and ice bring. Thanks again!!!
