Damage Control

Sorry I've been quiet so long. I'm glad it's Friday. Work is pretty stressful right now. We have a lot of staff changeovers and insurance companies are paying less and less and it seems like patients are getting more demanding and insurance rules.

I'm sorry to hear about your brother. I hope he accepts your help and gets back on his feet. I will definitely keep you all in my thoughts. We don't have any plans for Easter. I took my mom some soup last week and visited and have heard nothing. So I don't know what's up with that whole situation. I thought we'd sort of reconciled, but now I'm not sure.

I go round and round with my stomach. This has not been the best week. Too much water has been making me nauseas now. I have to be so careful. At least so far this morning it's ok.

Do you think 7:30 AM pick up is too late on the day we leave Sedona? I don't want you to miss your plane and I've been hearing about long TSA lines. Do you want me to change it to 6:30?

Off to work. It's the Friday before Easter and there's a ton of people off so I'm all over the place today.

6:30 would probably be better, just in case. Better to be early than late!

I'm feeling it on the insurance paying less. Even though we have a HDHP, it seems my insurance isn't covering much. We usually get a discount of sorts. Thankfully we don't need to go to the Dr. too frequently.

Yesterday I did the last disc of Meso 2. I'll start on Meso 3 probably on Sunday. We don't have any plans either. Things are kinda up in the air with my MIL being in the hospital. Still waiting to hear what they are going to do for her bowel blockage. SIL just texting letting me know MIL is in Afib now. This is just too much for her.

Today I did a workout from the other platform. It was legs, but not as heavy as it had been. Step ups for cardio in between each set. I did my own abs and then went for a walk. It is beautiful here today.

Off to clean up my office and review the bills.

I got the time changed to 6:30. I'm starting to pack in my head and am ready for warm weather! It's 20 degrees here right now with the high of 40 today. I'm obviously not walking to work today.

We went and saw the surgeon yesterday. She does not see a need to operate. So DH has to manage his symptoms-which means facing up to not being able to walk more than 15-20 minutes without his leg hurting and having a limp the rest of his life. I think it's more about the loss of mobility that's bothering him (aging sucks). So, he's chalking it up to arthritis and needs to come to terms with it. We'll see!

Otherwise, just enjoying being off and doing weights and my fascia stretching the last few days. I think my mom is ghosting me. I took her soup two Sundays ago and then called and left a message this past Monday morning-no response. Whatever. DH thinks she'll call when she needs something. I don't know.

How is your MIL? Did your brother find a place?

Beth

I don't plan on bringing much. 2 of the days are travel days so really only 3 days. I'm really looking forward to it. Don't forget swimsuits!

They finally did surgery on David's mom last night. She's been suffering for 10 days. The surgery went well, so now we have to hope for no infections and that she stays on top of her pain. She will probably be in the hospital for at least another week. I'm not sure if they will send her to a rehab first or if she will be able to go home.

As far as workouts go, not much for this past week. I did weights on Sunday, walked on Monday/Tuesday, walked today. We spent Friday at the hospital with David's mom. I only had a breakfast bar and chocolate chip cookie yesterday. I'm not sleeping well and just didn't have the energy to lift weights today.

I had to cancel my haircut appt on Friday so we could be at the hospital. Now I don't know when I will be able to get in. Ugh.

At least he can walk for 15-20 minutes at a time. As we age, we need to adjust to our new normal-whatever that is. Keep mobile in the way that your body allows, and that will be different for each of us.

Guess I forgot to post this yesterday. Oh well, this morning I did a full body circuit from the other platform and some of my own abs. DH and DS went to visit my MIL. I'm on call so I can't be that far away. I took a few things of the girls up to DS1 and visitied with him for a bit. One of the girls was working and the other was at work. Didn't get to see them.

I'm making dinner tonight since the rest of the fam is gone all day. I'm making pork tenderloin, feta stuffed baby bell peppers, salad and corn.

How is your weekend going?

My weekend was fine. I did my wash so have started packing. I am not bringing much either. I'd like to do some hiking, biking, walking, swimming and just get to know the area. There are day trips to the Grand Canyon available-would you want to do that one day? It will be so nice to be warm!

I hurt my neck doing glute lifts on my step. So I've been treading carefully and waiting for it to feel better.

Your poor MIL. I hope things are on the mend. Your dinner sounds great! I've never had stuffed bell peppers with feta. How do you make them?

Not much new going on. Hope your week goes well.

This morning I did a leg workout from the other platform and some standing abs. Tomorrow I have pellets inserted so I can't really do any jumping or lower body work for a few days. Wednesday I'll try to find an UB workout to do.

They are doing more tests on my MIL today. Her bowels haven't started moving yet, so they are looking at options for that. They were blocked for so long, it's just taking a while for things to get moving. When she is released, it will be to a skilled nursing home until she is strong enough to go home. She hasn't had any real food in 2 weeks. She get 1/4 C ice chips every hours and she has the NG tube. I feel so bad for her. Hopefull the nursing facility will be up by everyone, the hospital she is in is 60 miles away.

I did see some of the day trips. I would love to go to the Grand Canyon. Should we book that now? Wednesday would probably be good for that. Tuesday to get the lay of the land, relax, lounge by the pool etc. I'm game for anything. I'll make sure to bring at least one pair of tennis shoes. We've been warm here-in the 70's. It's been very nice. I'm counting down the days though. Oh, I just received my packable floppy sun hat from amazon! I normally just wear a baseball hat.

These are baby bell peppers and I just cut off the stems and take out the center/seeds, then stuff with feta cheese and bake. You can broil or bake them. You can also add spices and herbs to the feta if you like. Super simple, which is my kind of cooking.

Well I did my first workout today since getting back. I did legs and a bit of abs. Still considering doing Meso 3, each workout 2 times. After that I'll probably want to do something with a bit of cardio.

Unpacked and did laundry. I still need to make a grocery list and get that ordered.

Back at work today too, but it was nice to have a couple days to get caught up before starting the work week.

Monday I went to the doctor about my GI issues. She dx it as a gastritis flare. So, I'm on a bland diet and trying to get rid of the nausea. I have not been up to working out at all. I've been good with just getting through work so far this week. I didn't even unpack until Sunday. Thank goodness I had time to recover! I really liked the schedule of the trip.

Are you doing any Devi?

Beth

It took a week, but my stomach calmed down finally! I'm back to walking and doing weights. I also got my wash done this past weekend and had a lot more energy.

We met with a medicare advisor last night and DH will be signed up July 1st. I highly recommend meeting with someone. We went with original medicare (not Advantage) plan. I did not realize you could talk to them about both (thought they were all pushing Advantage plans). We're taking baby steps to get to full retirement and seeing how the cash flows with DH and his healthcare costs. I will still carry him for dental and vision. It feels good to get this started.

How is work going?

Beth

Well I'm back on that stressful project, just as bad as I imagined. So glad I'm only committed for May and July. June is our upgrade so I will be back with my team. Looking forward to that and I also have a week off in the mountains planned for June. I'm also looking for a long weekend trip in the beginning of September or so-around labor day. Let me know if you are interested.

One of my coworkers (in another dept.) has already been notified he will be laid off on Sept. 1st. He has been with the company for 35 years. He is in a very good place though. He would get the max severance (26 weeks pay), plus his vacation and he said he has 11 weeks, and he would qualify for 26 weeks of unemployment. He said even if he finds another job at our company, there is no guarantee that he wouldn't be laid off again and may not be offered this severance package. It makes me very nervous.

I've only worked out a few times. My other platform no longer works with the chromecast and it has been so annoying doing them off my tablet. I asked for a roku for Mother's Day. The app is available on the roku. Oh, and I'm back to Meso 3 for upper body. I've done week 1 (UB) and will repeat that before moving to week 2. Surprisingly, I haven't lost my strength. The only exercise I had to go down in weight for was concentration curls. I dropped from 20 to 17-not too bad considering biceps are my weakest link. :)

Glad to hear you are finally feeling better. Not a fun way to end your vacation. All the podcasts I listen too say the same thing, you want regular medicare and a supplemental and to stay away from the advantage plans. It's unfortunate that medicare does not cover dental and vision. We still need that care after age 65.

We usually meet with our Fidelity advisor in August. Hopefully our numbers still look good enough to retire at 63. Crossing my fingers. We are looking into options for med/dental insurance. We are also looking into meeting with Timothy Financial. They are fee based and not assets under management (% of AUM).

I tweaked my back getting up from desk-of all things. I think it is due to so much sitting-on this stressful project. I just don't have the time to get up and walk around as much as I should. I've been icing it off and on today and doing some hip mobility exercises for the SI joint. Hopefully it will ease up soon. I had to work last night and also have to work next Friday night. My body just doesn't handle this shift work very well.

I did a 3 mile walk today, the temp was perfect. Not sure when I will be able to get back to weights. Jerod and I set up the Roku yesterday. When my back is better, the other platform is ready! It was a self care day and I used my fascia blaster and red light therapy mask.

How was your week?

I feel like I just get through my days at work. I need to get a better mindset. A friend of mine from here just found out her youngest daughter has MS. It's awful. Between that and all the problems I see at work it's just so depressing sometimes.

Not at work is great! I get time to read, do my puzzles, workout, cook, etc. I've been doing total body workouts this week-yesterday was a 45 minute circuit. Tomorrow we go for another test for Dan. He's limping all the time and having more pain. At this point we just hope to figure out if there is anything that could be done for his mobility.

Happy Mother's Day! Glad you got the Roku set up! Have a nice brunch. I plan to take a pot of tea to my mom's later today and just visit.
