Damage Control...Thursday!

Good Morning Girls.

Did good today. I drank an ENTIRE cup of coffee before attempting to start the thread so the proper title is up there! See? ^^^^^^^^^^ :D:D:p

Diana:: Joey is actually in "camp" every day and he CHOOSES to stay there all day even though I am out of work by 11:30 every morning! It's free (perk of having an unemployed hubby in an abbott district at the time of application ;)) so it really doesn't matter how long he stays, I pay NOTHING! :D The first day I picked him up right after work. They were just finishing up lunch. The next day I waited until lunch was done and he asked if he could start napping there and playing afterwards so I started picking him up between 2 and 3. Eventually he wanted even MORE time so it was 4pm. Now it's 4:15 so that he has time out on the playground too! I love my kid! :D Y'day he woke up from his nap upset and wanting mommy though. Poor guy. He claims he wants to get picked up early today. I told him I'll do that for him today and between you and me, I doubt it'll last...;) All of that being said, once he starts school again, his days will actually be SHORTER then they are now since he gets out of class at 2:20. Once the school year starts he will not be in any kind of care b/4 or after school (same company runs b/4 n aftercare and the summer camp) because it will no longer be "free". They will re-evaluate your finances every 3-4 months to see if you still qualify and DH BETTER be working!!!
So once DS is out of school you can cut back to part time right? That's something to look forward to!!! :)

Jacque:: I hear ya on DH's expenditures! My DH bowls once a week in the summer and twice a week in the fall plus subbing which he doesn't have to pay for but it still costs money in BEER!:p He has also as you know, just picked up golfing as a new hobby which is mucho expensive so he won't be doing that nearly as much! I can't believe you guys eat dinner so late! If dinner isn't on the table by 6pm I begin my transformation from human being to MONSTER! So how was that choc pudding you made y'day?

So I've gotten an email response back from one of the jobs I applied for online. I am being directed to a site where I am supposed to fill out an application but it's not the company webiste so I am a bit leary. I don't know what to do. I don't want to give up the opportunity just to find out the site is legit but I don't know how to go about finding that out! Anyone have any thoughts???:confused::confused:

Today's work out will be Shape It Up this afternoon. Tonight I think they offer kickbox class again. If they do, I am considering taking it again. That's how much fun I had the other night! :D

Gotta jet for now but I'll be back!

Morning chicadees !

Still planning on a run after work tonight. Weather is only supposed to be 80' which will be perfect.

Wendy - Good job with "damage control" this AM ! ;) Funny about Joey wanting to stay. It's good when they want to socialize and will help get him used to school too. Lucky you ! Wanted to mention that the company who requested you complete an application on a website other than theirs may be using a recruiting company that does the initial screening for them. It is soooo time consuming going through resumes when you put a job out there. Especially these days. See if you can determine if that is the case and then go for it. Of course you'll not put on any personal info other than name, address and ph #. SS and DOB should not be part of an application.

Hope it goes well - let me know if you are still hesitant and I'll see if I can find any additional info from my HR forums.

Happy day to the rest of you ~ BBL.

Hi ladies,

It was off to work early this morning for a conference call with our European counterparts. It's evening for them... I hope to make it to the rec ctr for a lunch workout and have bootcamp class tonight.

The temps have been so nice, in the 70's, but all this rain is getting old.

Wendy-That's great that Joey loves his daycare. It's nice for him to get to play with others his own age. Free is good especially if DH isn't working. I can't help you with the website ?, wish I new more. I pretty much make dinner when I get home at 6-6:30. Looks like Jacque gave you some great advice.

Wendy,

Hold off - first off there are numerous mispellings and where they use the word "employee" is seems they should be using "employer".

I am thinking scam here - emailed their Info@xdrads inquiring as to whether they are for employers or candidates. Course it was from work and I'm an HR Manager so if they are legit I will get an answer as I have sooooo many calls from recruiters right now.

Will get back to you later or if I receive an email from them.

Wendy - well the email was undeliverable. You mentioned you received an email from a job that you applied for. Was there an employer listed or was it one of the "Employer Confidential" ads out there?

I am seriously guessing that either these people try to "sell" you a job somehow or they are looking for personal info. If you can't determine if the employer is legit, personally I'd write that job off.

Diana - hope the day goes as you had planned for your workouts. Low temps but rain? We have had lots of fog and moisture and lower temps - thank goodness no rain though.

BBL during a "legit" break ! :p

Jacque:: Thanks! I pm'd you with some more info. :) Oh and I think I made a mistake y'day. I hope I don't "pay" for it in the future some how. I got an automated msg for a couple of jobs from craigslist that sent me to www.hiringportal.com. Same idea as this new website only I fell for it. Kinda. I filled out info including DOB (YIKES!) and clicked the send button. It took me to some page where it wanted my cell phone # in order to continue. At that point I realized it was crap and exited the site but I hope I didn't share too much already! No SS # was asked for but I wouldn't have given it anyway. I've applied for jobs through careerbuilder.com as well so hopefully those jobs are all on the up n up. As for Craigs List...I think I will stay away...far far away from that crap from now on!!!!!! I also may have to yell at the girl at work who suggested it to me! LOL

Oh and some sad news...I had emailed the woman with whom I interviewed for a job at the beginning of June. They filled the position last week. *weep weep* I feel quite inadequate now. Talk about a confidence killer.

Good afternoon ladies!

I decided to wait unti the boss left before I checked in. Now I can type to my heart's content ;)

I got up this morning and hopped on the treadmill, only to admit after 2.25 miles that I just wasn't into it. It's likely that the three large glasses of Pinot Grigio I had last night may have had something to do with that. I don't know what got into me...it was hot and I was tired and feeling tense, so I bought a bottle of wine, figuring one cold glass would be nice, and then I just went to town :p Oh well, all it means is that I now plan on hittin' the road after work tonight for a "real" run. I'm looking forward to that. I also got out for a walk at lunch and am still trying to dry out from it. Gawd, it's a steamy one today!

Wendy: You're a lucky mommy to have a child who transitions into the school setting so well! My kids were always terribly shy. My son has grown out of it (in a big way ) but my daughter is still rather quiet. Hoping she comes out of her shell this year in 6th grade. Sorry to hear about all this application confusion! It sucks that people will take advantage of other people like that, preying on their vulnerabilities. Unfortunately, I see it all too often in the profession I'm in. Anyway, be patient, it's all going to work out. And if you'll allow me one unsolicited piece of advice...unless you absolutely must have the job for financial reasons, take your time going back, because once you go back that's it, you're sucked in for good. While being a SAHM has its downsides, it's a fairly short period of time for most women in the grand scheme of things. Work, however, seems to go on forever  Regardless, though, I hope you hear something soon and find what you're looking for! But seriously, don't feel bad about that other job being filled. The pool of applicants is enormous right now and it has nothing to do with your capabilities. All it takes is one person to come in a say "I have no children to worry about" and that could be the clincher, you know?

Jacque: Nice to have someone "in the know" to help out with these things ;) While I hope I don't have a reason for any of these questions any time soon, I'll be keeping that in mind! Your temps sounds perfect for a run and I'm a little envious ;) I'll be running through soup tonight while you're enjoying your warm, sunny temps :) Enjoy!

Diana: You are very lucky to work for an organization that promotes health and fitness like that! Congrats on the awesome weight loss! You must be thrilled.

Hi to Lori and Laura!

Even though it's nice and quiet around here this afternoon, I have meetings all day tomorrow  so I have to finish up my prep for that, but I'll be back (said like the Gov'nor himself ;))

Toodles!

Jen

Home for lunch so . . . thought I'd pop in ! :)

Wendy - PM'd you back . . . and bummer about that other job. It is tough times out there so IT IS DEFINITELY NOT YOU GIRL ! ! ! Don't lose your confidence here - it just wasn't meant to be or you'd be unhappily employed and not checking in here !

Jen - wish I had to watch out for my boss (who is hardly ever around) but I have to set a good example for my assistant ! Only because she spends waaayyyy too much time on personal crap ! Doesn't finish my projects so after 3 years, it is going on her review. I must be the boss from h377, huh? LOL about the wine . . . it happens to all of us. I'll be joining you on the run after work today ! Hey there . . . whatcha sayin' about my Gov here? :p Bet there are a heap of Californians not too happy with old Arnie right now. Did you see what he did when he signed the budget? LOL - I love it - probably because I don't need Welfare, am not a government employee and don't have kids in school any longer. Too many peeps in CA just think they are too good for themselves. Wondering who will take over next? Ooooo, maybe I'll call Ms Sarah Palin? (sp?) She'd toss another one into the fire.

OK - nuf said there.

Laura - how was Plyo? What else is the haps with you girl ?

Jacque: Yikes, remind me never to work for you ;) JK! Following up on our earlier conversation, there are plenty of folks out there right now who'd be happy to finish the projects, so she better shape up or ship out! (Guess I'd be the same kind of boss :p) You gotta do whatcha gotta do, girl! Somehow, though, I have a feeling you'll be gentle ;) Oh hey, how 'bout an Arnie/Sarah team? That'd shake a few people up I'm sure

Jen - I know I sound harsh but I am a manager and though I don't push that hard, but she reminds me of my kids trying to get away with stuff and then even when I bust her she doesn't stop? Feel like I am getting taken advantage of - come on, she is an HR Assistant and should follow policy as far as I am concerned. I raised my kids and here my boss put me back in the Mommy seat again ! I'm supposed to be an accountant - just love it when the #'s match up - no emotions or babysitting involved ! :D

Yep, I'm sorry but I am enjoying all the whiners getting theirs in the world right now - hate it when these mightier than thou peeps want their 5 % increase and better benefits. Heck, our increases barely cover our increases in health insurance costs, let alone no increases for at least a year. And our Oakland BART workers are gonna strike? That will help the unemployed go find jobs alright. Those people have pretty hefty union contracts. Oh well, off the box I jump (hoping it was a good heighth so I need less of a workout tonight ! :p) and get back to work. Month end is calling my name . . . boss let me keep some accounting (payroll & bennie journal entries ;)).

Hey Ladies!

Just a quick pop in. I am at work and have a flight coming very soon. I posted last night but I don't think anyone read it:(

Anyway, today I did a 18.4 km run with my running partner. There were a few hills as well so I may be a little sore tomorrow. Tomorrow I have a full body weight day planned and a small run, then back to STS on Mon!

Lori:)

Lori - I read your post last night, but silly girl, you posted on Tuesday's thread 'cuz Wendy wasn't awake yesterday morning and forgot to use Damage Control in the title. :p She was soooooo excited it was Hump Day she just totally forgot our little moniker.

So did you get your "free time" today? STS again on Monday, huh? You in Meso 3 yet?

Hi Girls.

Well I did Shape It Up and then off to the gym I went. I changed my mind though so instead of taking the class I got on a tm to run. It was goin' great and I had a 40 minute run planned when *poof* my ipod died. UGH! It died about 17 mins into my Itread work out and I was able to stand it for about another 10. That being said I followed Jen's lead and ran 2.5 miles today. :D Not what I wanted to do but good enough I suppose...heck, I lifted for 80 minutes. That's gotta count for something, right!? :p

Jacque:: Thanks soooo much for all of the help with the job response. I am not responding to that one. Let's see what happens with the others now!

Jen:: Well, my job search is being brought on for several reasons and part of which is money though it's not any kind of dire need...just extra security for the future since we want to move into a bigger house some day. Another part of it is me simply wanting to get back to work. Ultimately, I would love to have a decent paying part time job that fit neatly into the hours that my son goes to school (25 hours per week) so that no extra care is required except for during the summers but that is not likely to happen. At least not any time soon.... Last but not least, we'd like to have a second child. I would prefer not to be a SAHM to this one beyond about 6 months of age if it can be helped. That being said, DH thinks if I can find a f/t job to settle into before I get pg then I can go out on maternity leave and then take additional leave until the baby is 6 months old. He said if I am employed full time then I can collect disability during the extra time as opposed to getting nothing if I am not employed. The problem with this is that it may not be financially worth it for me to put a baby in daycare depending on the cost vs what I make. I want to work but I am not going to let a daycare raise my child if it means I don't get money in my pocket from my paycheck after paying for the baby's care. All that being said, I have no idea what will happen but for now I suppose I will look for a job and if ever I should get one, I will take the rest of the issues one day at a time...WHOA! Sorry for dumping all that you!

Diana:: So did you make it to the rec ctr? How was BC class?

Gotta jet! Time to give DS a haircut!

Hey girlies !

Well I just finished up what little bit of a workout I am getting today. Worked late and didn't get home until 6:30 - good thing I opted for the TM rather than the road as my legs just WERE NOT COOPERATING ! I'm feeling last night's LL and in addition I got a side ache pretty quickly. So walked, walked w/incline, jogged, fast jogged, walked, etc etc . . . (Wendy did you jinx me here? ;)) Ended up doing 40 min and about 3.33 miles. Would have done more but my gut required attention. Still "overheated" a bit and it has been nearly half an hour so guess it worked out just fine.

Wendy - you will get a job when the time is right. I must say you/DH have some great plans figured out though. Better to plan ahead and adjust than not plan at all when it comes to big life changes.

Off to eat some scallops if my stomach settles a bit. Prepping a few hors d'ouvres (sp - too lazy to look it up !:p) for DGS1 BDay party on Sat.

adding: just checked on my GWF order which is supposed to ship soon and be here the week of Aug 6 - 10. Boy oh boy Diana, I ordered on 7/25 and will be a bit miffed if you ordered after me and get yours first ! LOL!

Lates . . .
