A very good afternoon all,
If anyone is interested in my race report? If not, just skip the rest.
Well, as forecasted, it was 26C and with little wind. Oh my.
So son no. 1 and I placed ourselves way back in the pack to make sure we didn't start too fast. Lots of people there, and I think we were almost the last to cross the starting line. We ran slowly, or so I thought. To my surprise the first 5K was pretty hilly, crossing bridges regularly. I drive that stretch at least once a week but never noticed it was kinda "hilly". But when we do our training runs we always end with a run up a hill, accelerating every 50 meters and we occasionally run more bridges, so it didn't bother us one bit. But some started walking within 1K. Son no.1 and I started picking off people as we found our rhythm. Much to my surprise actually. We were passing so many that I realised I was running mid-pack. WOW. I used to run in the back of the pack but I was doing great. Lots of people had problems with the heat though. There were two along the way that needed paramedics. Others were sitting at the side of the road. I was getting a headache, but I brought my own water so I sipped regularly. Son no.1 was doing really well and a little annoyed I wanted him to run with me in the first half. After we passed the water station at 5K and I was sure he was OK with the heat, I let him run his own race. After the 5K mark we entered a stretch of wood with the glaring sun up in the sky, no shadow, and no wind. This was really tough people, but as Cathe says, when the going gets tough, the tough get going and with her words in mind I just kept on running. Passing people left and right. At the end of that stretch we had to go up the dike. And there was this guy in front of me who was running just a bit too slow for my rhythm. So I accelerated and passed him while running up. Big mistake!!! It totally messed up my breathing and I had to slow down. Darn it... It was then tough to keep my pace. But when I saw the finish I sprinted, again passing people who were totally startled someone went passed them ;-) Boy did my HR go all the way up to 198 !!! Man, I've never seen it so high. I guess I just found myself a new max HR. And I wasn't even throwing up my lungs ;-)
Anyways, finished in I think 1:06:50, which would make it my fastest 10K ever, but the official time won't be up till 8PM today, so I may have to correct that later.

Next race is already planned for 9July, another 10K, cause I don't think I'll be ready for a half mary. But it's coming.
Really proud of my son who finished in sub-60minutes despite the heat, but doesn't know his time. And very pleased with myself.
Have a great day ladies,
Dutchie
