Curtain/Window dressing help

Okay, I know that someone here will have the perfect solution for me!

I have wooden blinds in my bedroom and they do a rather good job of keeping the sun out in between them. The problem is that the sun comes in through the sides and top of the blinds. What's the solution?

Right now the walls are white and the blinds are wooden, but in the future, when we get to it, the walls will be a pastel (but a darker pastel) blue with white trim.

I'm not much of a decorator...!

Are your wood blinds white or natural? Wood blinds are very expensive AND very attractive, not something you want to cover.

Sounds like some window scarves are in order. Obviously you need a darker color since you're trying to block light. You can either go w/a darker blue or a contrasting color. I don't know what color your furniture is--a nice contrast could be a plum or green.

WOW, I really don't know much about decorating! WTH are window scarves? ha ha ha! OKay, let me google...

If you could give up the pretty look of the wood, we got roll-down blinds (it's made of cloth, like one large piece of cloth that sort of folds up and rolls up just like traditional blinds) from 3-Day Blinds, and on the back they put some light-obstructing material that's lightweight, light in color, but actually does block out almost ALL the light in the bedroom. The only problem is you sleep too well and it's hard to get up in the morning!
